PreOp/PACU Staff Nurse – PRN Position – West Cary (Panther Creek) Location
We are seeking a compassionate and highly skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our surgery center team, specializing in both Pre-Operative and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) support. This dual-role nurse will be instrumental in preparing patients for surgery and providing attentive care as they recover from anesthesia—all within a fast-paced, patient-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform pre-operative assessments, including vital signs, health history, and medication reconciliation
- Provide patient education and emotional support prior to procedures
- Start IVs, administer pre-op medications, and ensure surgical consent is completed and understood
- Monitor patients in PACU, assessing for airway, pain management, vitals, and overall stability
- Administer medications and interventions per anesthesiologist and surgeon instructions
- Communicate with patients’ families about status and post-op instructions
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with clinical and regulatory standards
- Collaborate with the OR team, anesthesia, and support staff for safe patient hand-offs
- Support discharge processes and patient education for home recovery
Qualifications:
- Current RN license in the State of North Carolina
- BLS and ACLS certifications required; PALS certification may be preferred based on patient population
- Minimum 1–2 years of nursing experience in pre-op, PACU, critical care, or similar surgical nursing settings
- Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask efficiently while maintaining a calm, reassuring presence
