Job Overview
This position reports to Vice President of Consumer Lending. This role requires someone who is enthusiastic about educating and assisting our members with our services. Responsible for organizing, planning, directing, all operations of the Collections and Records departments. Assists in the resolution of difficult and complex member account situations to include legal counsel in collections' proceedings. Responsible for collateral, repossessions, and the disposition of repossessed Credit Union assets. Performs periodic evaluation of collections and record retention policies and procedures and modifies as needed. Ensures that established policies, procedures, and legal requirements are followed by supporting staff. Coordinates activities, ensuring that all subordinate areas of responsibility support Credit Union objectives. Trains, directs, and appraises personnel. Ensures that services are delivered professionally and efficiently. Ensures compliance with all federal and state bylaws, and other regulations that apply. Skills And Experience
- Education – Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or related field
- Strong understanding of Credit Union collections, bankruptcy policies, and procedures.
- Strong understanding of related legal and regulatory standards, knowledge of collection practices.
- Strong understanding of consumer lending
- Minimum of 5 years of collection experience
- Minimum of 3 years of managerial experience
- Strong leadership and supervisory abilities.
- Excellent communication and public relations skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in stressful, high-pressure situations.

- Previous credit union experience is a plus

- Plan, directs and monitors operations for Collection Department, ensuring goals and objectives are met with respect to collections. Stays abreast of changes in the collection industry, practices and trends both locally and nationally including introducing new systems, work-flows, policies and procedures, to ensure The Credit Union remains on the leading edge of collections and member service.
- Keeps management abreast of collection trends, delinquency ratio, and charge offs to minimize any potential losses to the Credit Union. Provide recommendations for Collection and Charge-Off.
- Plan, implement and execute collection strategies to improve collection efforts and reduce delinquency ratio.
- Monitors and evaluates collections/recovery totals, work quality, efficiency, and productivity.
- Represent credit union in court proceedings if applicable.
- File all claims, attend hearings, and coordinate with trustees for all bankruptcy filings. Manage filing of insurance claims to realize the recovery of money and minimize losses Serve as a liaison with legal counsel regarding all non-real estate transactions.
- Process and handle all garnishment and levy requests which require proper reporting of information to creditors and members. File reports with appropriate law enforcement agencies on fraud and forgery items; file bond claims with insurance company.
- Ensures department personnel are well trained, effective, and optimally used by identifying training needs developing and implementing appropriate training programs.
- Analyzes data and provides reports for management and staff. Provide multiple performance related loan department reports and prepare end of the month reports.
- Responsible for analyzing and preparing required reports accurately and timely for monthly board meeting and management review.
- Attends and participates in management team meetings. Provides input and suggestions to management team and supports other team members to facilitate management decisions.
- Provides leadership to personnel through effective objective setting, delegation, and interpersonal communication. Coordinates collections efforts with related departments. Assists and supports, collection personnel and related departments as needed.
- Conduct yearly performance appraisals and monthly 1:1 meeting(s). Track individual progress and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Monitors individual development and job performance of loan personnel to ensure quality of work and service to members. Provide ongoing evaluation and assess performance of all direct reports. Actively guide and coach their performance with monthly meetings.
- Reviews collection procedures to ensure consistency with Credit Union’s policies and governmental regulations. Ensure quality control and the Collections Department is prepared for internal and external audits.
- Administrator for collection related systems. Monitor and ensure all collection systems are fully functional. Recommend new system to improve processes and efficiencies.
- Collaborate with other internal departments to improve member experience.
- Works in conjunction with the TLC and Indirect Lending Department to conduct reviews of the loan portfolio performance and recommends remedial action.
- Develops budget, plans for and analyzes internal expenditures. Monitor Paycom and employee timesheets.
- Complies with all Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) rules and regulations, in addition to Customer Identification Program (CIP). Attends required annual BSA training and required compliance training.
