Duties
- Assist lead teachers in implementing lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards, including literacy, math, and social skills development.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with disabilities, including those with autism spectrum disorders and developmental disabilities.
- Support classroom management by promoting positive behavior strategies and behavior management techniques tailored to students’ needs.
- Facilitate communication using American Sign Language (ASL) or other augmentative communication methods when appropriate.
- Assist with physical needs of students requiring mobility or personal care support, ensuring safety and comfort at all times.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with special education needs.
- Support classroom activities in diverse settings such as Montessori, preschool, or early childhood education environments, including toddler and preschool care.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information while documenting progress and behavioral observations accurately.
Requirements
- Prior experience working with children in educational or childcare settings, especially in special education or private school environments.
- Knowledge of childhood development principles, classroom management strategies, and behavior management techniques for students with disabilities.
- Familiarity with curriculum development, lesson planning, literacy education, basic math skills, and early childhood education practices.
- Experience working with individuals with autism spectrum disorders or behavioral disorders; familiarity with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) is a plus.
- Ability to communicate effectively using verbal skills and American Sign Language; strong writing skills are also essential.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information responsibly and professionally.
- Physical ability to assist students requiring mobility support or physical assistance within the classroom setting.
- Passion for working with children of diverse backgrounds and abilities; patience, adaptability, and teamwork are key qualities for success in this role.
