Position Summary
Assists with responsibilities for the children, activities and occasional supervision of program adults for an age group or classroom, and program development in compliance with Center policy and procedures and NYS OCFS regulations. Substitutes and assumes teacher responsibilities in absence of teacher.
Essential Duties (not limited to):
· Assist in developing and implementing age/ability appropriate plans/activities/recreations for the program by using the Center and outside resources, current trends and a variety of early education/learning themes/activities.
· Keep children clean, well groomed, diapered/toileted/changed when needed and tend to injuries/incidents immediately.
· Assist in maintaining and arranging all indoor and outdoor program spaces, equipment, supplies, furnishings, decorations (wall/ceiling/floors), etc.
· Assist in posting and keeping current all required and necessary (to classroom and Center operations) information including lesson plans, emergency information, parent information, classroom information, such as routines, rules, daily events and schedules, and special activities notifications.
· Assists in maintaining current records, emergency/release/health information and administration information/forms on the children (and family), and program and Center routines (lunch and attendance records, field trip and permission forms, sign-out forms, etc.).
· Assist in serving meals and snacks, including setup and cleanup.
· Assist in placing children according to interest, ability, companionship/social skills, and age/development.
· Actively supervise children at all times indoors or outdoors in a direct, positive (at-site, not across the room or playground), professional manner with behavior and performance expectations that are age appropriate.
· Perform classroom and Center cleaning.
· Attend, participate in, and implement information derived from staff meetings, curriculum and program development meetings and training as required.
· Greet and welcome each child into the program each day. Greet each parent each day and share information.
· Cooperate with program adults within the classroom in a professional, cooperative manner using appropriate communication and leadership techniques.
· Be informed of and follow Center policies and procedures as updated, stated, written or implied.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
- High School Diploma (or GED) required.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Must pass the background clearance and complete health screening (including TB screening).
- References are required.
- First-Aid/CPR/AED preferred.
