Purpose of the PositionThe Rainbow Thrift Shoppe Assistant Manager works with staff and volunteers in sorting, pricing, displaying and selling donated items. This position will also work with the store manager to ensure that all shifts are covered, and all day-to-day store business is taken care of.
Key Responsibilities
- Open, operate, and close Rainbow Thrift Shoppe as scheduled.
- Provide excellent customer service to donors and shoppers while supporting daily store operations.
- Cover shifts as needed and attend scheduled meetings.
- Operate the point-of-sale system and accurately process transactions.
- Understand and follow guidelines regarding acceptable donations.
- Sort donated items according to established quality and safety standards.
- Merchandise, price, and move donated items to the sales floor.
- Safely lift and move items, including some heavier objects, as required.
- Work collaboratively as part of a team to support efficient and successful business practices.
- Support store marketing initiatives, including creating and posting content on social media.
- Understand the relationship between retail operations and supporting Rainbow’s healthcare mission.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and proof of current auto insurance required upon hire and maintained throughout employment.
- Ability to maintain healthy professional boundaries and positive interpersonal relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate courteously, tactfully, and effectively with customers and staff of diverse backgrounds and ages, both verbally and in writing.
- Basic proficiency with technology, including point‑of‑sale systems, email, and social media platforms.
- Demonstrated integrity and strong work ethic, including reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work in varied weather conditions to assist with retrieving donations from vehicles.
- Previous experience in retail, customer service, or working alongside volunteers preferred.
