Overview:
Rail Explorers is an eco-tourism company providing top-tier outdoor recreation experiences. We connect
the freedom of the outdoors and the magic of the railroad in a unique and fun activity that can be
enjoyed by all ages. There are currently seven Rail Explorers Divisions, located in Cooperstown, NY,
Phoenicia, NY, Newport, RI, Boone, IA, Clay, West Virginia, Versailles, Kentucky, and Ione, California.
Rail Explorers Adventure Guides lead guests on scenic outdoor railroad rides using our top-of-the-line rail
bikes while ensuring a safe, timely, 5-star customer experience.
Successful guides are comfortable working outside and in nature, physically active, positive, outgoing,
and have excellent customer service skills. Flexible start/end dates and flexible weekly schedules are
available and extensive training is provided. Advancement is also possible within the company – Rail
Explorers prefers to promote from within.
Responsibilities:
- Pedaling Rail Explorer pedal assist vehicles up to 3 times per shift (8 -12 miles per tour).
- Greeting guests and communicating safety guidelines.
- Safely rolling and manipulating Rail Explorer vehicles on foot.
- Performing physical work outdoors, in the elements.
- Understanding emergency protocol, assessing situations clearly and quickly applying appropriate
responses.
- Able to work in a fast-paced team environment, adapt to constant change.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism in accordance with the Rail Explorers code of Ethics.
- Learn and maintain a high level of rail and road crossing safety and basic maintenance of Rail
Explorer vehicles - training provided.
- Checking in guests using an online booking system and selling merchandise - training provided.
- Speaking in front of guests - approximately 40-60 guests per tour, following a script.
Required Qualifications:
Ability to provide excellent customer service.
Ability to perform physical labor (lift minimum of 50lbs)
CPR & First Aid Certification (provided)
Valid Driver's License.
Preferred: Customer service experience, 1-2 years.
Preferred: Outdoor work experience, 1 year (or 1 season, if seasonal).
