Veterinary Technician / Veterinary Assistant

We are seeking a motivated Veterinary Technician / Veterinary Assistant who is comfortable working in
a hands-on clinical setting and supporting both medical and administrative responsibilities. Training is
available for the right candidate.
Position Overview
This position is a multi-functional role supporting all areas of a small animal practice. The Veterinary
Technician / Assistant works closely with the veterinarian and supports patient care, surgery and
anesthesia, diagnostics, laboratory testing, medical records, sanitation, and front desk responsibilities
as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Patient Care
• Assist the veterinarian during routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry, and
euthanasia procedures under supervision
• Safely restrain dogs and cats during examinations, treatments, diagnostics, and blood draws
• Assist with routine procedures including vaccinations, blood collection, and dental cleanings
• Administer medications and treatments (oral, injectable, topical) as directed by the veterinarian
• Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures
• Assist with anesthesia induction and monitoring, including recording vital parameters
• Monitor patients during anesthetic recovery and prepare them for discharge
Surgery, Anesthesia & Diagnostics
• Assist during surgical and dental procedures
• Monitor and document vital signs during anesthesia
• Take radiographs (X-rays) as trained
• Place IV catheters and assist with technical procedures• Maintain accurate anesthesia and recovery records
Laboratory & Medical Records
• Collect and process laboratory samples (blood, urine, feces)
• Perform routine in-house laboratory testing
• Assist with medical documentation and notes
• Maintain complete and accurate medical records
Facility Maintenance & Sanitation
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe hospital environment
• Clean and disinfect exam rooms, kennels, treatment, and surgical areas
• Clean, maintain, and sterilize instruments and equipment
• Follow aseptic and infection-control protocols
Client Service & Administrative Support
• Greet clients and pets professionally and compassionately
• Answer phones and schedule appointments
• Manage data entry, records, and correspondence
• Explain fees, process payments, and assist with invoicing
• Make follow-up calls and relay instructions as directed
• Provide general client education on preventive care
• Dispense approved medications and products
Additional Responsibilities
Management may revise this job description or assign additional related duties as required to support
clinic operations, including periods of increased workload, staffing changes, emergencies, or practice
growth.
Qualifications
• Previous experience in a veterinary clinic preferred
• Ability to safely handle and restrain dogs and cats
• Basic understanding of veterinary terminology and animal care
• Experience with anesthesia, surgery, lab work, or radiography is a plus
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to multitask
• Professional and compassionate demeanor• Willingness to learn in a small practice setting
