Sales Associate

POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for people-loving, outdoor-playing, gear nerd to join our team. This job is retail with a twist! In this role, be a part of the consignment process from consignor sign-up, to gear intake to customer education to sales. No day will ever look the same.

Unlike an REI, we will get gear that is brand new, but we also get a lot of gear that is older than all of us or never publicly released. It is important that you have a comprehensive understanding of outdoor adventure sports, but are able to be flexible in that knowledge and remain willing to learn.

As one of the many beautiful faces of the Ragged team, the ideal candidate will be a deep well of information surrounding mountain sports and the gear we need to play. But even more importantly, the perfect sales associate will have a passion for and unpretentious way of encouraging people to enjoy the outdoors however they want to.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Product Management:

• Accept new consignment throughout the month
• Research and price incoming consignment according to our pricing guidelines
• Maintain an expert understanding of all sports and disciplines from 1300 CE to now
• Build familiarity with the ever-changing layout of the store and inventory in the store to best direct customers
• Develop a clear understanding of the function of the gear beyond the “newness” to allow you to best meet our customer’s needs

2. Customer Service:

• Provide customers with useful, non-pretentious information and advice on products and outdoor activities
• Build rapport with consignors and customers, understanding their needs and preferences
• Maintain positive and lasting customer and consignor relationships
• Share your enthusiasm for the local outdoors with customers and consignors
• Emphasize getting customers outside, not just selling the nicest gear
• Communicate with customers and consignors in their primary language (we are big fans of Google Translate)

3. Demeanor (yes, this is a Key Responsibility):

• Maintain sobriety at work
• Bring a positive attitude and provide top-notch customer service, even on tough days
• Remain flexible and humble; admit when you don’t know something or if you were wrong
• Refrain from trash talking

4. Consignor Relations:

• Greet everyone who walks through the door
• Handle disrespectful or threatening individuals according to company policies
• Keep consignor information confidential and never talk negatively about consignors or their gear

5. Additional Responsibilities:

• Moving inventory from inside to outside daily
• Merchandising inside and outdoor shop spaces
• Opening and closing
• Great taste in music (you will also be a dj)

Qualifications:

• Strong knowledge of various sports and outdoor disciplines
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Ability to sell and and speak about products effectively
• Passion for the outdoors and helping others enjoy outdoor activities
• Previous retail or sales experience is a plus

WAGES AND BENEFITS

Part-time: (16 - 24 hours/week) Fridays & Sundays

• Starting: $20/hour
• Eligible for Chamber Discount for ASC ski pass
• First dibs on all priced consignment
• Up to 40% discount on all personal purchases in store
• Sell personal gear at 80%

Availability to cover week day shifts when needed
Option to extend to full time (24 - 32 hours/week)
