summary of position

In-process quality control personnel monitor the assembly of coils and ensures that quality procedures are adhered to. 


 

Essential functions

  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. This includes working with coil shop personnel on the cleanliness of the shop area and the external areas near the shop.

  • Review and understand CSF and other build documents prior to and during equipment assembly.

  • Understand and ensure that manufacturing instructions are being followed.

  • Review production areas daily.

  • Assist various production groups as needed (Fin, Tube, Build, Expanding, Brazing, Floaters, Test, etc.)

  • Monitor all coils in production for any obvious signs of defect, and perform spot checks for detailed inspections. (Checking that coils match proper measurements at build before expansion, MPT/FPT gauge tests, go/no go tests on tube sheets, distributor, header, and connection spot checks, etc.)

  • Spot check tubing for physical damage, excess oil, or other contaminants. This includes checking loose tubing for eddy marks or other tube manufacturer markings indicating the tube should not be used.

  • Spot check quality check lists in various groups. (Size and quality of ball bearings for expansion, expansion mandrels, turbulator tools, fly cutting and swaging depth, etc.)

  • Work with Fin, Tube (cutting and hairpin), and CMS operators to ensure accurate first run criteria. This includes working with the operators and the LMS group to develop training and troubleshooting materials.

  • Work with Brazing personnel to ensure decay tests are properly performed before coils are sent to test.

  • Work with floaters to ensure that full checks are complete before sending to test. This includes dimensions, air flow direction, intermediate directions and general correctness of build.

  • Review nonconformances and perform corrective actions as needed. This includes creating and disseminating toolbox talks and training material.

  • Develop training to correct issues that arise through quality control initiatives.

  • Review rework to determine cost values associated with rework and to identify which rework has the most occurrences, followed by corrective actions against those occurrences.

  • Work with other Quality Control personnel to ensure that equipment and tools are up to date on calibration.

  • Work with coil shop personnel to ensure they have adequate tools, training, and materials to perform their job functions.

  • Input grades from testers and review the results with Production weekly.

  • Develop KPIs. This includes grading, rework, leak rates, etc. Review the results of KPI’s with Production weekly.

  • Work with coil engineers and quality engineers to improve products and machine operation.

  • Participate in teams to improve design and functionality of equipment. (PDCA, KATA, LMS, and Continuous Improvement Initiatives.)

  • Work with all departments throughout RAE Corporations to obtain information needed for production to include providing this documentation for the groups that need it.

  • Work with all departments on creating in process quality assurance policies and procedures.

  • Attend work as outlined in Employee Handbook and/or specified by your manager.

  • Complete other tasks as directed by manager.

  • Comply with government regulations, laws, company policies and company procedures. 

Desired qualifications

Education: A high school level of education is mandatory for this position in order to continue upward advancement in the company. The employee must be able to understand directions from supervisors and managers, as well as giving out precise and accurate information to all departments. 


 


Experience: at least 2 years in manufacturing


Skills: Ability to use Microsoft product software. Self-motivated. Effective oral and written communication skills. Mechanical & technical aptitude. Alertness & precision working with tools. Basic computer & math skills are required. Knowledge of assembly and servicing of refrigeration and HVAC equipment. Ability to communicate in a diplomatic and positive manner at all levels of understanding (entry level to engineering).


 


Certificates, licenses or training: High School Diploma or better, Refrigeration certification or degree preferred, and/or OJT, valid driver’s license

Interaction with others

Answers to Quality Assurance Supervisor. In constant communication with other departments, primarily in the final assembly area and engineering. It is essential that the employee is able to work with all employees of the RAE team and shows a spirit of cooperation with others in the organization.

working environment

Work is performed in an industrial production area for a manufacturer of refrigeration and HVAC equipment. The employee is constantly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is high in some areas. Exposed to extreme temperatures in both winter and summer. Possible stress caused by the pressure of meeting deadlines and product quality standards. Seasonal variations in hours worked based on production demands.
