Job Summary:
The Activities Assistant supports the planning, coordination, and implementation of engaging recreational, therapeutic, and social activities for residents of the nursing home. This role promotes physical, emotional, and social well-being by assisting in programs tailored to residents' interests, capabilities, and care needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in organizing and conducting daily, weekly, and special activities (e.g., arts and crafts, games, music, group outings, exercise programs).
- Encourage resident participation and help them engage in scheduled activities.
- Transport or escort residents to and from activity locations within the facility.
- Maintain a clean and organized activity area.
- Observe residents’ behavior during activities and report any concerns to appropriate staff.
- Document resident attendance and participation according to facility policy.
- Decorate and help set up for events, holidays, and seasonal celebrations.
- Collaborate with nursing and other departments to support individualized activity plans.
- Assist in developing new activity ideas based on resident preferences and abilities.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as facility policies.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience in recreational therapy, senior care, or a similar role preferred.
- Compassionate and patient with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Creative, enthusiastic, and organized.
- Basic computer and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to lift/move up to 25 lbs and assist residents physically if needed.
- CPR/First Aid certification may be required.
Work Environment:
- Nursing home or long-term care facility setting.
- May involve evening, weekend, or holiday hours depending on scheduled events.
