What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior FPGA Engineer position at Radley James?
We’re looking for a Senior FPGA Engineer to join a cutting-edge trading firm operating at the intersection of finance and ultra-low-latency technology. You’ll play a key role in designing and optimising FPGA-based systems that power high-frequency trading strategies, working alongside a team of elite engineers, quants, and traders.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role where nanoseconds matter. If you enjoy solving complex performance challenges and pushing hardware to its limits, this is the environment for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimise FPGA-based solutions for low-latency trading systems
- Implement high-performance data paths, network interfaces, and market data processing pipelines
- Work closely with software engineers and quantitative researchers to translate trading strategies into hardware
- Optimise timing, throughput, and resource utilization across FPGA platforms
- Participate in architecture decisions and contribute to system-level design
- Debug and troubleshoot hardware/firmware issues in production environments
- Stay current with the latest FPGA tools, techniques, and industry trends
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong experience with FPGA development (VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog)
- Proven track record in low-latency or high-performance systems
- Experience with FPGA toolchains (e.g., Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus)
- Solid understanding of digital design, timing analysis, and hardware architecture
- Familiarity with networking protocols (Ethernet, TCP/UDP) and high-speed interfaces
- Experience with hardware debugging tools (logic analyzers, simulation frameworks)
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience in financial markets or high-frequency trading
- Knowledge of C/C for performance-critical systems
- Experience with PCIe, memory controllers, or high-speed serial interfaces
- Exposure to algorithmic trading systems or market data feeds
Salary : $400,000 - $500,000
