General Position Summary & Responsibilities
The Commercial Manager in Training (CMIT) reports to a Commercial Leader, which may vary depending on line of business and/or territory. This developmental role is designed to build the knowledge, judgment, and field capability required to succeed in Radius Recycling’s organization within the metals recycling industry. Through structured training, field exposure, and cross-functional learning, the CMIT develops an understanding of ferrous and nonferrous scrap procurement, commodity grading, pricing strategy, margin management, logistics, supplier development, and operational execution. This role is intended to create a strong pipeline of future commercial talent by preparing the incumbent for broader account responsibility and commercial leadership opportunities based on performance, readiness, and business need.
The CMIT will learn how to generate and grow purchases of scrap metals within an assigned geographic area and support the commercial team in managing a book of business. This includes visiting current and prospective suppliers such as scrap dealers, demolition contractors, industrial manufacturers, auto recyclers, and other scrap-generating businesses. The CMIT will develop the ability to identify new supply sources, build productive business relationships, and support commercial growth initiatives that align with company goals while gaining hands-on exposure to the commercial, operational, and market dynamics that drive performance across the operating platform.
The role provides structured development in commercial negotiations, commodity market awareness, logistics coordination, cost-to-serve considerations, inventory management, and supplier relationship management. The CMIT learns how commercial decisions affect safety, service, throughput, quality, working capital, and profitability, while progressing toward readiness to manage accounts and support commercial growth objectives independently.

Helps identify opportunities to improve processes and elevates concerns related to operations, compliance, ethics, or policy violations through appropriate channels.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not encompass direct supervisory responsibilities. As part of the training program, the incumbent may provide coordination support, lead portions of meetings, or assist with cross-functional communication, but does not directly supervise employees unless specifically assigned.
Job Conditions
This position requires frequent day travel within an assigned territory and regular visits to recycling facilities, industrial yards, customer sites, demolition sites, and supplier locations. Occasional overnight travel may be required based on customer needs, market conditions, training assignments, and business demands. Significant time may be spent in active industrial environments that include outdoor conditions, uneven walking surfaces, noise, dust, vibration, moving equipment, and heavy machinery. The role may include early morning, evening, or extended hours depending on customer needs, travel requirements, and business demands. The position requires adaptability, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively in both office and field environments.

Qualifications
- Highschool Diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to travel frequently within the assigned territory.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Supply Chain, Finance, Operations, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum of one year of experience in sales, procurement, logistics, manufacturing, recycling, industrial operations, commodities, or a related business environment; internship, co-op, or rotational experience in these areas may also qualify as relevant experience.
- Experience in scrap metal recycling, industrial services, manufacturing, demolition, transportation, brokerage, commodity trading, or other supplier-facing business development environments.
- Demonstrated relationship-building, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills in school, work, or related settings.
- Willingness and ability to relocate across the operating platform based on business needs.
- Ability to learn company systems and reporting tools.
- Ability to learn commodity grading, pricing concepts, cost drivers, and commercial negotiations.
