Position Summary

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Radiology is seeking a PACS System Administrator to support the day-to-day operation and administration of the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS). This position is responsible for supporting image workflows, archiving, auto-routing, diagnostic viewing, prefetching, and other essential imaging system functions. The PACS System Administrator works closely with imaging and technical teams to ensure the complete and accurate capture of DICOM digital image data and the timely availability of diagnostic-quality images 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This role also supports the integration of image processing systems across multiple hospital departments and develops an in-depth understanding of Radiology interoperability, end-user workflows, and system support to ensure reliable and efficient clinical imaging operations.

Position Responsibilities

  • Aids in the implementation and support of key Radiology IT platforms; Actively seeks process improvement opportunities within the department and presents those to department leadership
  • Performs basic configuration and installation of organization-wide Radiology IT solutions
  • Assists with the integration of key systems and platforms; Ensures system backup strategies are developed
  • Documents all work orders and project related work; Diagrams system architecture for implemented solutions
  • Plays a key team role in providing support of multiple complex and integrated Radiology IT solutions; Interacts with team members at all levels of the
    organization
  • Participates in department on call rotation
  • Coordinates regularly with the hospital IT department
  • Aids in developing scripts to improve the management and support of Radiology IT systems
  • Provides a high level of customer services to key individuals across all levels of the organization, inside and outside of Radiology
  • Regularly interacts with physicians and other clinical staff
  • Participates in project and support calls with vendors
  • Assists in onboarding new department staff members; Shares knowledge of existing systems with new staff

Supervision Received

  • General supervision is received from the Manager of Radiology Engineering PACS team

Supervision Exercised

  • Administrative and functional supervision exercised over PACS Team during assigned project implementation.

Education Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science in Information Technology or Computer Science, or an equivalent combination of STEM-focused education and experience

Experience Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience working with computer hardware and operating systems
  • Basic knowledge and experience of networking and computer operating systems
  • Demonstrated high mechanical aptitude
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Driver's license and ability to meet the University of Iowa Fleet Management Driver’s safety
    requirements
  • Ability to participate in on-call rotations and be able to return to UI Health Care within a 30-minute commute time to and from UI Health Care.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Knowledge of network routing and switching technologies
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy
  • Knowledge of radiology imaging technologies
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Server Operating Systems
  • Knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles
  • Experience working in a medical center environment
  • Experience in the assembly, installation, troubleshooting and repair of computer hardware and software
  • Demonstrated ability to install, maintain and repair high performance workstation hardware
  • Demonstrated excellent problem-solving ability in order to resolve issues and insure functionality
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently or within a team environment
