Description

Position Summary

Responsible for coordinating patient care and workflow for the Mammography department and for performing Mammo exams as needed. Assists the Mammography Supervisor with equipment maintenance, supply ordering, process and procedure, and staff and exam schedules.

Reporting

Reports directly to the Mammography Supervisor.

Supervision

Exercises indirect supervision over Mammography Technologists.

Typical Physical Demands

Requires manual and finger dexterity as well as eye-hand coordination. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds; assists patients and places them in appropriate positions according to exam requirements. Selects appropriate imaging techniques and operates console and peripheral hardware and/or software. Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20 vision to operate equipment and for associated image review.

Typical Working Conditions

Potential exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Operates all Mammo imaging and ancillary equipment and performs patient exams.
• Assesses daily clinic schedule and makes resource adjustments as needed.
• Evaluates daily workflow and staffing room assignments and adjustments as needed.
• Ensures exam orders are complete and correct including prior authorization criteria.
• Maintains supply inventory in a fiscally responsible manner.
• Monitors equipment downtime, maintenance schedule and repair logs.
• Participates in Mammo safety, performance improvement, quality control and emergency response programs as needed.
• Oversees new employee orientation.
• Provides direct and indirect supervision of radiography students assigned to area.
• Assists with customer survey responses.
• Ensures cleanliness and organization of Mammo area.
• Provides feedback to Mammo Supervisor for employee performance appraisals.
• Works closely with radiologists, peers, staff, and management to review and implement policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Plays an active role in maintaining FDA/MQSA and ACR accreditation and other regulatory standards.
• Collaborates with and supports Presbyterian Healthcare Systems as needed.
• Maintains required certifications and licensure.
• Adheres to the ARRT Standard of Ethics.
• Additional duties as assigned.
  
  

Position may include extended hours, after-hours, and weekend work, or call as required.

Qualifications

Performance Requirements

• Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of Mammography.
• Knowledge of techniques associated with quality breast imaging.
• Skill to properly positioning patients to provide high quality Mammography exams.
• Knowledge of Mammography equipment operation and testing.
• Ability to acquire working knowledge of RIS system, EPIC EMR, PACS Change (McKesson), Qgenda, and PenRad.
• Ability to anticipate and react calmly to emergency situations.
• Ability to maintain QC/QA program for Mammography.
• Ability to write reports and prepare correspondence.
• Ability to of provide guidance, instruction and mentoring to students and staff.
• Skill to establish effective working relationships with patients, visitors, and staff.
• Ability to identify and resolve problems using good judgment.
• Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
• Skill to trouble shooting equipment operation and perform simple adjustments.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent; and,

Completion of an accredited radiologic technology and 40-hour Mammography didactic educational program.

Experience

• Three years of experience as a Mammography Technologist preferred.
  
  

Certificate/License

• Current Radiography and Mammography certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• Current license with the New Mexico Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Program.
• Current CPR certification or obtained within three months of date of hire.
