About the Role
Radiant Living is hiring Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to provide one-on-one support to adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities who live in their own homes and are actively involved in their communities.
DSPs support individuals with a wide range of needs. Some clients are very independent and lead active lives; others require ongoing direct care and support with daily living and medical needs. We are currently hiring for positions that include both types of support needs.
The role of a Direct Support Professional requires flexibility, emotional maturity, and a commitment to honoring each person’s voice as they live a meaningful life shaped by their own needs, values, and decisions.
Responsibilities
DSP responsibilities vary depending on the client’s needs and lifestyle, but may include:
* Supporting health and medical needs, including:
- Medication administration
- Attending and facilitating medical and dental appointments
- Assisting with mobility, transfers, and personal hygiene
* Supporting household and daily living tasks such as:
- Cooking and meal preparation
- Cleaning, laundry, and household maintenance
- Grocery shopping and errands
* Facilitating community inclusion, such as:
- Encouraging involvement in hobbies, social groups, or fitness activities
- Transportation to and support at events, appointments, classes, or recreational activities
* Supporting skill development and personal goals, which may include:
- Communication, budgeting, literacy, cooking, and problem-solving
- Facilitating social connections and independent decision-making
* Providing emotional and behavioral support using person-centered and positive behavior practices
* Maintaining accurate documentation and participating in team communication, trainings, and staff meetings
Examples of Day-to-Day Activities
DSPs may find themselves.....
- Accompanying someone on a nature walk or community hike
- Assisting with art, gardening, or cooking projects
- Helping prepare for a camping trip or recreational outing
- Supporting calm indoor routines such as reading, meditating, or listening to music
- Engaging in light exercise, gym visits, or swimming
- Driving the client to medical appointments or to visit family
Qualifications (Required)
- Must currently reside in Humboldt County (Eureka/Arcata/McKinleyville area)
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must pass a DOJ fingerprint background check
- Clean driving record (no DUIs within the past five years)
- Reliable personal vehicle in good working condition (for use during shifts)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to follow detailed support plans and safety protocols
- COVID-19 vaccination required
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities
- Background in social services, caregiving, education, psychology, or healthcare
- Familiarity with person-centered planning or positive behavior supports
