Job Title: Data Modernization Director
Work Location: Jackson, MS 39216
Contract Duration: ASAP through 11/30/2027
Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite, limited telework allowed
Position Overview
The Data Modernization Director will provide oversight and strategic direction for data modernization projects funded under the CDC Public Health Infrastructure Grant, specifically Strategy A3. The role focuses on guiding project planning, coordination, and alignment across multiple initiatives rather than direct execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall oversight and direction for data modernization initiatives funded under the CDC Public Health Infrastructure Grant.
- Support projects including, but not limited to:
- Modernization of the agency website.
- Implementation of licensing and certification databases for professional licensure, healthcare facilities, and food protection.
- Improved interoperability for the immunizations information system.
- Enhancement of Electronic Test Orders and Results for the state public health laboratory.
- Assist in the development and implementation of project timelines.
- Support project leaders during implementation phases as needed.
- Maintain consistent and effective communication with agency staff involved in data modernization efforts.
- Ensure focus on project objectives and adherence to established deadlines.
- Develop and manage a team of support staff as required to assist with data modernization projects.
Required Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated experience overseeing all phases of complex data management or data modernization projects, including planning, organizing, and budgeting.
- Strong ability to communicate effectively with staff involved in data collection, management, and development of agency data resources.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
- Experience working under national data and IT security standards related to protected health information.
- Working knowledge of data management, visualization, and analysis tools.
- Experience working with vendors providing modern data management and analytics systems and applications.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience working with or for government entities on data or IT-related projects.
- Familiarity with government procurement and purchasing requirements.
- Experience supporting or managing projects funded by federal grants, including reporting requirements.
