- Review medical records, documentation, and provider notes to assign appropriate ICD-10 diagnosis codes, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) procedure codes, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications.
- Ensure all coding aligns with current coding guidelines, regulations, and payer requirements to maximize accurate reimbursements.
- Prepare and submit clean claims for insurance billing using advanced EMR/EHR systems while verifying patient information and insurance details.
- Follow up on unpaid claims through effective medical collection strategies, including resubmission or appeals when necessary.
- Maintain comprehensive and organized medical records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies or incomplete records for precise coding.
- Stay updated on changes in ICD coding standards, CPT updates, and other relevant medical billing practices.
