POSITION PURPOSE: Under the supervision of the Manager of Neighborhood
Enhancement, performs property maintenance inspections of commercial and
residential properties and issues legal orders to secure compliance with
city building, zoning, and related codes. Essential Duties: This
inspector\'s main objective would be focused on inspecting residential,
rental, commercial and industrial properties, both interior and
exterior, for code compliance. Inspections will be conducted as a result
of receiving complaints, by proactive outreach and by a structured
canvassing of all areas of the city. Notifying owners of violations of
the City Building and Zoning ordinances and securing compliance with
these ordinances. This may require meeting with the property owner and
explaining the written orders, if requested. Enforces the Racine Zoning
Ordinance and makes investigations and decisions regarding zoning
complaints. Maintains records and prepares reports. Provide testimony,
under oath, in municipal court regarding building and zoning code
violations. Maintains a consistent and reliable attendance record.
Assist the Manager of Neighborhood Enhancement in his/her duties and
performs related work as assigned. ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS OF
POSITION: Air-conditioned office environment. Rental unit environment
Possible exposure to inclement weather while performing inspections.
