Position Summary:
The Substitute Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment in District facilities during the absence of regular custodial staff. This role supports daily operations by performing general cleaning, light maintenance, and setup tasks to ensure buildings are ready for students, staff, and visitors. The Substitute Custodian follows established procedures of the Office of Operations as well as safety standards, and schedules, and works collaboratively with building staff to meet facility needs. Assignments may vary by location and shift and may include evenings or weekends as needed.
Essential Functions:
1. Perform routine building cleaning in classrooms, restrooms, hallways, offices, and common areas according to established standards.
2. Assist with the safe setup and breakdown of equipment, furniture, and materials for school activities and building functions.
3. Maintain safe access to the building, including snow and ice removal as needed.
4. Safely perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, crawling, pushing, pulling, and climbing ladders or stairs.
5. Must be able to lift, at minimum, 50 pounds on a repetitive basis and 75 pounds periodically.
6. Follow all safety protocols and use equipment and materials responsibly.
7. Report to work reliably, complete assigned shifts, and be willing to work varied schedules, including overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.

Work Environment:
1. Busy work environment with multiple priorities and frequent interruptions. Work includes a commitment to irregular working hours, when needed.
2. Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to read a variety of documents; sitting for extended periods of time; walking; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment; intermittent bending, stooping or reaching overhead to retrieve or store materials; driving a vehicle to conduct business activities.
3. Primarily an indoor work environment with potential exposure to hazardous materials and construction equipment.
4. Most of the workday is spent walking, standing and lifting.
5. Work with a schedule of activities to perform daily, weekly and at other intervals.
6. Job duties may require working outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
Statement of Supervisor:

Must have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the public. Complete heavy workload within established time frames. Adjusts priorities quickly as circumstances dictate.
