Position Purpose: Provides instruction in support of District curriculum, through leadership and expertise to ensure that the library media program is an innovative part of the instructional program of the school. Support Credit Recovery in the building. The standard recovery/credit recovery teacher must be dedicated to providing services and educational opportunities to ensure all students are learning, growing and succeeding. The educator will support students who have specific needs that the traditional classroom cannot address. The educator will support and encourage at-risk students to re-take previously failed standards and or courses. Fiscal Responsibilities: Collaborates with administration to oversee the expenditure and appropriate use of Wisconsin Common School Funds in accordance with Wisconsin Common School Funds Guidelines. Collaborate with administration the expenditure of miscellaneous school funds. Collects payments for lost and damaged library media resources. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 1. Ability to collaborate with individuals and groups at all organizational levels, using effective interpersonal skills. 2. Knowledge of or willing to be trained in Understanding by Design (UbD). 3. Ability to demonstrate best teaching and learning practices, methods and techniques. 4. Energetic, dynamic professional who is passionate about student learning and is motivated to identify staff needs and lead high-quality instructional support in technology curriculum and staff development ability to manage time. 5. Knowledge of existing and the ability to learn emerging technologies (Google Apps for Education, mobile devices etc) 6. Understands online collaborative learning environments and personalized learning web-based opportunities. 7. Understands and promotes digital literacy. 8. Knowledge of current library, technology and common core standards. 9. Promotes the online district databases to all staff, students and parents Essential Functions: 1. Provide access to information and resources for all students, staff, and school community users through a systematically developed, multi-cultural collection that support the curriculum. 2. Provide leadership and expertise in the selection, acquisition, evaluation, and organization of information resources and technologies in all formats, as well as expertise in the ethical use of information. 3. Promote reading as a foundational skill for learning, personal growth and enjoyment. Empower students to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers and ethical users of information. 4. Strive to achieve the vision of Racine Unified School District to reach the North Star. 5. Informs teachers, students, parents and administrators of current and emerging materials, equipment and services that meet their information needs. 6. Develop and maintain a collection of resources appropriate of the curriculum, the learners, and the teaching styles and instructional strategies used within the school community. 7. Cooperating and networking with other libraries and librarians to provide access to resources outside the school. 8. Evaluating, promoting, and using existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning, supplement school resources, connect the school with the global learning community, communicate with students and teachers and provide 24/7 access to online library services. 9. Promotes rights and responsibilities of users relating to the generation and flow of information and ideas. (e.g., copyright, confidentiality/privacy; intellectual freedom). 10. Promotes independent reading for pleasure through planned activities, supporting and nurturing students’ interests and abilities, and developing quality literature collections that have a diversity of viewpoints and genres. 11. Collaborates with teachers in the development and instructional lessons and units (single subject or interdisciplinary) that integrate information and technology literacy standards into the curriculum. 12. Facilitate a variety of student engagement formats including peer to peer collaborations and feedback.
