Crisis Services Worker I

Basic Function

Crisis Services workers serve as the first point of contact for individuals who are experiencing an emotional crisis or who are seeking information, support and linkages to mental health, alcohol and other drug and other community resources. Contact with individuals may be in person or by telephone at the Behavioral Health Services of Racine County.

Essential Duties

  • Perform duties in compliance with agency Best Practice and DHS 34 standards.
  • Utilize standardized tools to assess individuals who are experiencing an emergency mental health crisis; provide supportive listening and create safety plans as needed.
  • Provide information and linkages to individuals requesting counseling through Behavioral Health Services and other community and national resources.
  • Provide follow up with individuals as needed.
  • Receive and document referrals from individuals and community partners (medical staff, law enforcement, schools) to the Adult Protective Services or the Mental Health Mobile Response Teams.
  • Provide oral and written communication appropriate to the task and in accordance with agency, DHS 34 and Medicaid standards.
  • Facilitate the success of the Crisis Services team by organizing daily responsibilities and responding to worker questions and needs for staffing.
  • Meet regularly with supervisor and Clinical Director to ensure effective communication between Crisis Services; Behavioral Health Services delivery system and community partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including responding to an emergency event.

Supervision Received

Receives supervision from the Clinical Director and Crisis Supervisor of Behavioral Health Services and in accordance with DHS 34.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in human services related field is required.
  • Two years of experience working in mental health or crisis services preferred.
  • Successful completion (within 3 months after date of hire) of 40 hours Wisconsin certified Crisis Program training, which is part of on-the-job training.
  • Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance are required.
  • Prompt and regular attendance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of DHS 34, 92 and 94 and Wisconsin State Statutes 48, 51 and 55.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse client population.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and multitask.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to Interact with the public in a professional manner.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $24.00 per hour
