The SUD Technician teams with substance use disorder and mental health professionals to care for and provide substance use disorder services for individuals receiving substance use treatment in a 24/7 residential treatment facility.  The Technician provides day to day care and oversight to SUD residential consumers, ensures a safe, clean environment, and performs other duties as assigned by Racine County’s SUD Residential Program. Duties may include non-standard work weeks.
  1. Provides continuous care to SUD Residential consumers seeking treatment for substance abuse issues by enhancing their health, safety, and welfare. 
  2. Maintains the individual’s dignity and exercise courtesy when assisting/working with residents.
  3. Assess for suicide risk and crisis intervention when appropriate. 
  4. Work both independently and cooperatively with others to accomplish objectives. 
  5. Appropriately responds to any crisis, emergency, or trauma which occur at the facility.
  6. Monitor and track all residents and visitors of the facility. 
  7. Observes consumer physical, mental, and emotional conditions, adherence to program rules and expectations, and reports changes as needed.
  8. Conducts periodic inspection of resident rooms for tidiness or presence of contraband. 
  9. Communicates effectively verbally and in writing. 
  10. Conducts routine inspection of the facility for fire and safety code compliance and other safety violations; conducts safety drills. 
  11. Documents all activities in the electronic health record to ensure compliance with County, State, and Federal requirements. 
  12. Transports residents to and from services/activities off-site.
  13. Regulates curfew hours and conduct bed checks. 
  14. Provides residents with monitored access to their medications in accordance with BHS’ policies. 
  15. Supervises residents during extra-curricular activities. 
  16. Attend all staff meetings as required. 
  17. Review and adhere to all applicable agency policies and procedures, seeking supervision when unclear which policies/procedures apply or how. 
  18. All other duties as assigned, which may include responding to an emergency event.

Supervision Received
Receives supervision from the HS Supervisor - Substance Abuse (Residential).
  • High school diploma and one (1) year of related experience or an associate degree in Human Services or related area is required.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  • Prompt and regular attendance.
  • Ability to use good judgment, make quick decisions, good problem-solving skills, and a deep reservoir of common sense.
  • Ability to use critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to read, speak, write, and understand English.
  • Ability to supervise and communicate to developmentally disabled, mentally ill consumers, or those with alcohol or drug dependency.
  • Ability to manage stress appropriately.
  • Ability to maintain self-composure and self-control while working with consumers with challenging or aggressive behaviors. 
  • Ability to communicate responsibly with the SUD Residential Supervisor.
  • Possesses knowledge of community resources.
  • Possess awareness and basic knowledge of DSM V and DHS Chapters 34, 51, 54/55, 48, 75, and 94.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs and lift at least 20 pounds.
