Job Summary:
The Municipal Bond Trading Assistant will provide essential support to our municipal bond trading desk, with a particular emphasis on facilitating the competitive underwriting process. Key Responsibilities:
- Competitive Underwriting Support:
- Assist in the preparation and submission of bids for competitive municipal bond issues. This includes reviewing official notices of sale, gathering relevant market data, and coordinating internal pricing discussions to determine competitive yields.
- Work closely with the trading and underwriting teams to analyze maturity structures, call provisions, and other terms outlined in the notice of sale.
- Facilitate the formation and management of underwriting syndicates for competitive deals, ensuring all necessary documentation and communications are handled efficiently.
- Monitor bidding processes and assist in the finalization of bids.
- Track and disseminate information regarding new issue scales, pricing, and allocations to internal stakeholders and syndicate members.
- Trading Desk Operations:
- Provide administrative and operational support to municipal bond traders, including monitoring market trends, executing trades, and managing inventory.
- Process new issue pricings and update transaction information in various internal and external systems.
- Assist in the reconciliation of trades and resolution of any settlement discrepancies with external trading partners and custodians.
- Maintain accurate trade records and ensure adherence to compliance protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Generate and distribute market commentary, bond run-sheets, and other relevant reports to sales personnel and clients.
- Research and Analysis:
- Conduct thorough research on municipal credits, market conditions, and economic factors impacting the municipal bond market to support trading decisions.
- Identify comparable deals and assist in developing pricing strategies for new engagements.
- Client and Internal Team Interaction:
- Communicate effectively with internal sales teams, public finance bankers, and external partners.
- Assist in preparing materials for client presentations and requests for proposals (RFPs).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Strong understanding of fixed income concepts, practices, and operations.
- Familiarity with the municipal bond market, including competitive underwriting processes and market dynamics.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and experience with financial databases (e.g., Bloomberg).
- Excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple detailed tasks under tight deadlines in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and professionally.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and eager to learn.
- FINRA Series 7 and 63 licenses (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe upon hire).
