About the Position
As the Cook / Culinary Instructor, you will prepare quality meals while providing hands-on culinary instruction to students enrolled in the Job Corps program. You will teach essential cooking techniques, food safety practices, kitchen management, and professional culinary skills that prepare students for successful careers in the food service industry.
This position offers the opportunity to combine your culinary experience with mentoring and education in a rewarding environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of meals while demonstrating professional culinary techniques.
- Provide hands-on culinary instruction to students in a classroom and kitchen environment.
- Develop lesson plans and practical training exercises.
- Demonstrate proper food preparation, sanitation, and kitchen safety procedures.
- Evaluate student performance and provide coaching and constructive feedback.
- Maintain compliance with all health, sanitation, and food safety regulations.
- Manage kitchen inventory and assist with ordering supplies.
- Foster a positive, professional learning environment that encourages student success.
- Stay current on culinary trends, industry standards, and best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- Professional experience working as a Cook, Chef, Sous Chef, Kitchen Manager, or similar culinary role.
- Experience training, mentoring, or teaching others in a kitchen environment.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and kitchen operations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred Qualifications
- Culinary degree or formal culinary education.
- Previous experience teaching culinary arts or workforce training.
- Current ServSafe Certification or equivalent food safety certification.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
