The “Shop Supervisor - Carpentry” Role @ R. Jack Balthazar

This candidate must have the capability to wear many hats depending on the situation. The primary job function will be targeted at overseeing and enforcing shop safety, production and efficiency standards of our build department. In support of this function, the Shop Supervisor will maintain and order supplies, track resource allocation and ensure quality work is being produced.

With support from the department manager, the Shop Supervisor is expected to promote a culture of “Safety First”. This includes regular safety trainings as well as daily corrections to establish best practices. You’ll also have a chance to learn and teach new techniques that can help improve our process and grow the skillset of our crew.

While this is primarily an oversight role, there may also be hands-on opportunities to create as well. When applicable, you may be asked to add your unique skillset to the production process. Whether you have been a painter, a carpenter or a jack of all trades, you’ve reached this point in your career by being exceptional in some way in this production world and we want to keep that creativity flowing.

Must be able to produce and conduct high quality work within strict deadlines and budget parameters and be willing/able to continue to improve the quality of our work by introducing new techniques and finishes.

This role is based out of our production house in Vernon, CA and generally on a standard 830am-5pm schedule but may require extended hours including night and weekend work offsite when jobs demand.

Pay based on experience and quality of work based on company and client expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and monitor processes and people to ensure a safe working environment in the fabrication shop and related work areas
  • Oversee documentation of custom builds and finishes for internal as well as regulatory purposes
  • Lead with a continuous improvement mentality – we always want to get better – find ways to improve the skills of the team every day
  • Oversee the regular cleaning/maintenance of all company equipment used in the life cycle of the fabrication and finishing processes
  • Assigns and inspects the work of Carpenters; initiates corrective action to secure satisfactory standards and timely project completion.
  • Work with, and in support of, the Supervisory Team in the supervision and operation of the carpentry shop and related personnel
  • Work with, and in support of, the Supervisor Team to implement and conduct basic onboarding training for new hires and continuing education calendar for all relevant shop crew
  • Advise Management of shop/process improvements to create better work-flow
  • Ensure department resources are used efficiently, relative to job needs including raw goods and human resources
  • Participate in fabrication, finishing or repair processes as required
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and order when needed

Qualifications

· 8 years relevant industry experience in a leadership position

· Proven knowledge, expertise and passion for training, leading and building teams.

· Ability to solve problems and provide direction to others in high pressure situations.

· A desire to continue to grow and improve professionally

· Valid driver’s license w/clean driver record

Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
