Hours: Sunday- Friday 7-3:30
Responsibilities:

- Perform railcar inspections to identify defects, damage, fatigue, and conditions requiring repair.
- Perform railcar repairs in accordance with AAR standards and company procedures.
- Assist with locomotive inspections, maintenance, and minor repair activities as assigned.
- Track, document, and maintain records of inspections, repairs, material usage, and completed work.
- Remove debris and contaminants from railcars using backpack blowers, scraping devices, and other approved equipment.
- Inspect and assist in opening and closing railcar doors.
- Identify repairs requiring mechanical intervention and communicate repair needs to appropriate personnel.
- Determine lubrication requirements for railcar and vehicle securement devices and assist with lubrication of hinge decks, end doors, chock systems, and related equipment.
- Inspect vehicle securement devices to determine fitness for service and properly store equipment within railcars.
- Assist with repairing and lowering hinge decks.
- Inspect, repair, install, and remove bridge plates.
- Maintain accountability and preventive maintenance of company tools and equipment.
- Ensure vehicles, shops, and work areas remain clean, organized, and safe.
- Follow all company and regulatory safety requirements and promote a safe work environment.
- Work mandatory overtime when operational needs require.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Railcar mechanical experience preferred.
- Experience with freight car inspections and repairs preferred.
- Welding and oxy-acetylene torch experience preferred.
- General knowledge of hydraulic tools, power tools, and mechanical equipment.
- Valid driver's license required if operating company vehicles or equipment.
- Must meet and maintain all requirements contained within company employment policies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with employees, supervisors, customers, and contractors.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:

- Ability to constantly work in an outdoor environment, exposed to all weather elements, including extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust and noisy conditions
- Ability to frequently open railcar doors using pulling back force of 90lbs and pushing force of 68lbs
- Must meet OSHA respirator use requirements
- Ability to frequently operate gasoline power blower using a constant lateral sweeping motion with your arms
- Ability to frequently tolerate fuel and exhaust vapors up to OSHA prescribed levels.
- Ability to occasionally work in areas with limited lighting
- Ability to occasionally climb, using various types of ladders, to heights in excess of 16 feet
- Ability to occasionally work in areas of limited lighting
- Ability to occasionally stand for periods of time greater than 2 hours
- Ability to constantly work in area with less that 60 inches of vertical clearance
- Must be able to hear work or safety instructions verbally communicated in normal speaking voice
- Constantly required to use bending, squatting, twisting, walking motions on uneven surfaces throughout the entire work shift
- Must possess normal depth perception and have a normal peripheral vision in both eyes.
- Must be able to work independently
- Must be able to properly wear all required Personal Protective Equipment
- Possess the equilibrium and ability to frequently cross 3-4 foot open spans at heights up to 16 feet
- Ability the lift above shoulder height a weight of 50 lbs
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 35lbs on your back climbing railcar ladder and crossing between decks
Environmental Conditions: Performs duties in outside environments, in and around moving locomotives, railcars, vehicles, and equipment. Frequent exposure to weather elements. Appropriate PPE required.
