What are the responsibilities and job description for the KN100 Laborer Backhoe Operator position at R.J. Corman Railroad Group?
The R.J. Corman Railroad Company is currently seeking a Backhoe Operator/Laborer to join our team on our short line through Middlesboro, KY and Clinton, TN.
Responsibilities:
- Operate Specialized equipment. (i.e. Backhoe, etc.)
- Performs preventative maintenance on heavy or specialized equipment.
- Maintains proper equipment appearance and cleanliness.
- May perform labor duties as needed.
- Communicates with supervisor throughout the job process.
- Ensures working conditions are safe, and proper PPE is being used as job duties require.
- Follow DOT regulations; ensure proper permits and driving regulations are followed.
Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and Experience:
- Demonstrated operation experience and equipment knowledge.
- Basic mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot simple mechanical failures.
- Previous experience in railroad construction or maintenance preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to perform physical strenuous work.
- Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
- Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Requires occasional use of 30 lb claw bar to remove spikes, requiring application of 50 lbs of force.
- Requires occasional use of 10 lb sledge hammer to drive spikes, requiring application of 75 lbs of force.
- Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner.
- Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary.
Environmental Conditions:
- Performs duties in primarily outside environments, in and around moving locomotives, railcars, vehicles, and equipment.
- Frequent exposure to weather elements: appropriate PPE required.
