R.J. Corman Railroad Company seeks candidates for the position of Director of Railroad Operations to ensure the safe, profitable operation and continuity of the short line railroad company and other assigned entities.

Successful candidates will be responsible for the Southern region of our network of operations with operations in Louisiana. The Director will provide effective general direction and oversight of transportation operations; compliance with corporate policies and federal, state and local regulations; development and retention of qualified personnel; and establishment of accurate financial budgeting, cost control and reporting.

Responsibilities:

  • The Director will provide effective general direction and oversight of transportation operations; compliance with corporate policies and federal, state and local regulations; development and retention of qualified personnel; and establishment of accurate financial budgeting, cost control and reporting. Provide internal stakeholders – from various departments – with support, feedback, and guidance, as needed.

  • Build a Safety Culture with a foundation focused on rules compliance.

  • Ensure managers are trained on GCOR, proficient in leading rules training classes and testing.

  • Lead all levels of RJ Corman employees in safety compliance and continuous improvement.

  • Foster long-term relationships with the customers by providing excellent service without interruptions.

  • Require Operations Managers to understand and comply with contract service requirements.

  • Facilitate and participate in customer meetings, as required, to review KPI's and eliminate safety concerns.

  • Support RJC priority to be the best and look good by ensuring organization and cleanliness of equipment.

  • Support hiring process.

  • Provide proper tools: material and intellectual.

  • Secure proper equipment and training for accurate and efficient job completion.

  • Oversee cost controlling and generate additional revenue with projects and contract discussions.

  • Fill in with field roles as needed (throwing switches, etc.)

  • Ensure all coworkers, leaders, customers are treated with professionalism and tact.

  • Make sure every teammate understands how to provide Internal and External customers with a positive RJ Corman experience.

Job Requirements:

Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in business administration or equivalent experience. Demonstrated financial management acumen from course work and/or business experience is essential. 5 years in railroad transportation operations with specific experience in the management of service delivery. Minimum of three-year’s experience managing subordinate departments and management & professional personnel.

Physical Requirements: Limited lifting, no greater than 30 pounds in the movement of office materials and equipment. Hand and finger dexterity for use of keyboard skills. Able to perform physically strenuous work, as needed – stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting / carrying objects up to 80 lbs, pushing / pulling with up to 150 lbs of force to throw a switch

Environmental Conditions: Performs duties both in an inside administrative office environment and in an outdoors railyard environment. Requires significant regional travel.

Major or Unusual Problems: Rapidly expanding company is increasing the workload and therefore the ability to produce sufficient volume of work while maintaining accuracy is a must.

Job Dimensions: Performs duties under limited supervision; handles significant volume of confidential information.
