The IT Specialist is responsible for delivering daily technical support, maintenance, and service to ensure the smooth and secure operation of the credit union’s systems and technology. This role focuses on the installation and setup of computers and related technologies, completion of software/hardware updates, and the ongoing support of staff through the helpdesk and ticketing system.

They excel at assisting users by listening to concerns, diagnosing issues, communicating recommendations clearly, and following through to ensure long-term resolution. Support may be provided over the phone, via email, or in person.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Technical Support & Maintenance
- Install, upgrade, and replace workstation hardware and software within established timeframes; ensure systems are fully operable and provide user training when needed.
- Maintain and update software, ensuring proper safeguards, equipment compliance, and timely updates to minimize downtime or service interruptions.
- Test, implement, deploy, monitor, and maintain network and security services are essential for effective computer network defense.
- Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot network equipment; collaborate with vendors as needed to ensure optimal performance.
- Respond to emergency network outages in alignment with business continuity and disaster recovery procedures.
- Recommend, schedule, and perform system improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
Helpdesk & User Support
- Serve as the primary point of contact for technical assistance requests via the helpdesk/ticketing system.
- Provide exceptional support to internal staff through accurate information, timely resolutions, and courteous service.
- Assist users by diagnosing issues, implementing solutions, documenting outcomes, and following up to ensure long-lasting resolution.
- Prepare, update, and maintain documentation, including procedures, manuals, help sheets, and installation guides.
Projects & Operations
- Manage small-scale IT projects, demonstrating strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Initiate and produce timely and accurate daily job stream processes, including running reports as required.
- Support vendors and contractors on technical implementations related to Credit Union projects and initiatives.
- Monitor operational procedures and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and service quality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Specifications / Requirements
- Strong verbal and written communication skills appropriate for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Valid driver’s license required for travel to support branch locations (company vehicle usually available but reliable transportation required).
- Familiarity with Windows 10/11, Windows Server operating systems, and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook).
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy Objects (GPOs), and VoIP phone systems.
- Sound judgment with the ability to navigate conflicts with diplomacy and tact.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and “outside the box.”
- Excellent attention to detail.
Education & Experience Requirements
- A college degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or related field and at least two years of similar or related experience recommended. Qualified Technical certifications (i.e., A , Security , Network , MCSE, CCNA) and/or additional years of experience in a related position may also be acceptable in lieu of degree as long as candidate can demonstrate proficiency.
- Applicant should have a working technical knowledge of Active Directory/Azure/Intune and experience configuring network devices including PCs and servers.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze technical issues, troubleshoot effectively, and implement solutions.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain a positive, professional attitude.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to explain technical information in user-friendly terms.
- Ability to work independently while following established procedures and best practices.
- Proven customer service skills for effective collaboration with end users.
- Experience in a credit union or financial services environment is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to install, move, and access equipment, including activities such as reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
- Ability to perform essential job functions safely and successfully in alignment with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance in accordance with applicable requirements.
