What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Equipment PM Technician/Field Service Technician position at R.E. Cupp Construction, L.P.?
Heavy Equipment PM Technician / Field Service Technician
R.E. Cupp Construction L.P. is seeking a dependable, mechanically inclined Heavy Equipment PM Technician / Field Service Technician to support our fleet of heavy construction and excavation equipment.
This is not simply a fuel delivery position. We are looking for someone who understands heavy equipment, is comfortable working around machinery, and is willing to get their hands dirty. The right candidate will be responsible for daily fueling, greasing, inspections, and preventive maintenance in the field while also handling minor repairs and assisting our mechanics with larger repairs as needed.
This position will spend a significant amount of time in the field traveling to active job sites in a CDL service/fuel truck.
Responsibilities
· Drive a CDL service/fuel truck to construction job sites throughout the DFW area and surrounding areas.
· Fuel and grease heavy construction equipment on a daily basis.
· Perform scheduled preventive maintenance services on heavy equipment, including engine oil and filter changes, fuel filter changes, air filter inspection/replacement, hydraulic and transmission filter changes as required, fluid level checks/top-offs, and general machine inspections.
· Track equipment hours and identify machines approaching scheduled service intervals.
· Inspect equipment while servicing and report leaks, damaged components, excessive wear, or other potential mechanical problems.
· Perform light-duty field repairs including hydraulic hoses and fittings, minor leaks, filters and fluid-related repairs, batteries/basic electrical items, belts, clamps, fittings, and other minor components.
· Assist heavy equipment mechanics with repairs in both the field and shop.
· Help with troubleshooting and disassembly/reassembly when working alongside mechanics.
· Maintain service records and communicate completed work and equipment issues to management and mechanics.
· Keep the service truck clean, organized, stocked, and ready for daily operations.
· Safely handle fuel, lubricants, filters, waste oil, and other maintenance materials.
· Maintain a clean and safe work area at job sites and in the shop.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is more than a driver. The ideal candidate has mechanical experience or a strong mechanical aptitude and wants to become more knowledgeable about heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
A good candidate should be comfortable working independently in the field but also willing to work alongside experienced mechanics when additional help is needed.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience servicing or repairing heavy construction equipment, agricultural equipment, diesel trucks, or similar machinery.
· Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, filters, fluids, hoses, and fittings.
· Ability to recognize common equipment problems during routine servicing.
· Experience performing oil changes and preventive maintenance on diesel-powered equipment.
· Ability to use basic hand and power tools.
· CDL required
· HazMat endorsement required
· Clean driving record.
· Ability to safely operate a service/fuel truck around active construction sites.
· Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, mud, dust, and other typical construction conditions.
· Ability to lift and handle filters, hoses, tools, oil containers, and other maintenance supplies.
· Dependable attendance and ability to work with limited supervision.
Mechanical Experience
You do not have to be a fully qualified heavy equipment mechanic for this position. However, we are specifically looking for someone with mechanical knowledge who is interested in doing more than fueling equipment. Candidates should be willing and able to perform preventive maintenance, make minor repairs, identify potential equipment problems, and assist our mechanics with larger repairs.
Equipment
Our fleet consists primarily of heavy excavation and earthmoving equipment, including:
· Dozers
· Track loaders
· Excavators
· Articulated dump trucks
· Compactors
· Skid steers
· Water trucks
· Service trucks
· Haul trucks and trailers
· Other construction equipment
Equipment includes Caterpillar, Komatsu, and other major manufacturers.
Work Environment
This is a hands-on field position. The majority of the work will involve traveling between active construction projects and working outdoors around heavy equipment.
Some days will primarily involve fueling, greasing, and scheduled maintenance. Other days may involve replacing a hydraulic hose, helping diagnose a machine problem, assisting a mechanic with a repair, or working in the shop.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in keeping equipment serviced, catches problems before they become major repairs, and is willing to help wherever needed.
