Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Preconstruction Manager at R.C. Mathews Contractor in Nashville, TN. The Preconstruction Manager will support and work with management and operations in the review of project plans, requirements and specifications.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties include the following (other tasks may be assigned):
- Lead design-phase budgeting, value management, and preconstruction planning efforts.
- Provide proactive cost, constructability, procurement, and market guidance to clients and design teams.
- Identify project risks, scope gaps, escalation impacts, and procurement challenges early in the design process.
- Prepare conceptual, schematic, and detailed estimates across multiple project types and delivery methods, including hard bid, GMP, and Design-Build.
- Review drawings and specifications to ensure complete scope coverage, pricing accuracy, and coordination across all trades.
- Lead subcontractor and vendor bidding efforts, including bid solicitation, leveling, scope alignment, and buyout support.
- Develop quantity take-offs, bid packages, trade clarifications, project benchmarks, and conceptual pricing studies.
- Collaborate with operations, VDC, scheduling, and field teams to align budgets, logistics, staffing, schedules, and execution strategies.
- Utilize estimating, BIM/VDC, and preconstruction technology platforms to support efficient and accurate project delivery.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners.
- Present budgets, estimates, value management options, and project recommendations to internal teams and ownership groups.
- Support projects throughout the full preconstruction lifecycle, from early budgeting through subcontract formalization and project turnover.
- Visit project sites as needed to validate scope assumptions, logistics planning, constructability, and estimate accuracy.
