Senior Software Engineer

Quorum, Inc.
South Burlington, VT Full Time
POSTED ON 4/15/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 10/11/2026

Company Description

Quorum, Inc. empowers brands to maximize their advertising investments across social media, CTV, and display platforms. Utilizing robust data on real-world shopping behaviors, Quorum provides personalized targeting audiences and seamless synchronization with major programmatic and social platforms. The company specializes in driving results-focused advertising strategies that go beyond traditional paid search and website retargeting. With an easy setup process and no minimum requirements, Quorum makes advanced advertising accessible for businesses of all sizes.

Role Description

You are replacing the engineering capacity previously provided by an outsourced contractor team (Macrosoft/Ali) that departed in early 2026. But you are not simply filling the same seat. You are stepping into a fundamentally different operating model: one where AI coding agents handle implementation, offshore developers handle routine engineering tasks, and your job is to be the stable technical spine that everything works against.

You will be the most senior hands-on engineer at Quorum. You write code. You review code. You deploy code. You also supervise the agents and offshore developers who write code alongside you. The founder (Ezra Doty) sets product direction and owns the data methodology. You own the engineering machine that delivers it.

What You Own (Day to Day)

•       Agent Orchestration (30%): Decompose engineering work into well-scoped tasks for AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor). Write task specs. Package codebase context (READMEs, architecture docs, type hints, module boundaries). Review agent output. Merge or reject. You are the quality gate between agent-produced code and production.

•       Infrastructure & DevOps (25%): Own CI/CD pipelines, deployment (Railway), monitoring, alerting. Implement proper test coverage. Harden the deployment pipeline so it’s auditable and reliable. Manage Snowflake infrastructure alongside Shahid. Make the platform look like a real company built it.

•       Offshore Team Management (20%): Hire, onboard, and manage 1–2 offshore developers (likely Pakistan/India timezone, overlapping with Aziz and Shahid). Set clear async workflows: code review standards, branching strategy, PR templates, definition of done. You’ve managed distributed teams before and know that quality without micromanaging requires process.

•       Codebase Stabilization (15%): The Optimizer platform (Flask/Python, Snowflake backend, vanilla JS frontend) works and serves clients. It was built fast with AI assistance. Your job is to add test coverage, refactor where it matters, document the architecture, and ensure the codebase can survive diligence. You are not redesigning — you are hardening.

•       Technical Representation (10%): Join client calls when technical depth is needed. Present architecture to potential investors, acquirers, or partners during diligence. Answer their questions about infrastructure, data pipeline reliability, and security posture credibly and specifically.

What We Need

(Required)

•       5 years of production Python engineering. You’ve built and maintained systems that real users depend on, not just prototypes.

•       Strong SQL against large-scale data warehouses. Window functions, CTEs, query optimization against billion-row tables, understanding of execution plans. Snowflake preferred; BigQuery/Redshift/Databricks acceptable.

•       Demonstrated experience implementing CI/CD, automated testing, and monitoring on an existing codebase. You’ve hardened systems, not just greenfielded.

•       2 years managing a small distributed/remote engineering team (2–5 people). You’ve done async code reviews, set expectations across timezones, and maintained quality without micromanaging. Offshore team management experience strongly preferred.

•       Comfort with AI-assisted development. You have used Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar tools in your actual workflow — not just experimented. You see AI agents as a force multiplier and understand their failure modes (drift, hallucination, context loss).

•       DevOps fluency: Docker, Railway or similar PaaS, GitHub Actions, monitoring/alerting setup. You can own the full deployment pipeline end to end.

•       US-based. Non-negotiable for the client-facing and diligence components.

(Strong Preference)

•       Experience with AI agent orchestration workflows: task decomposition for agents, context packaging (READMEs, architecture docs, type hints as guardrails), review-as-bottleneck patterns. This is the emerging skill and we know it’s rare — but if you’ve done it, you’re ahead.

•       Background in data-intensive products: analytics platforms, ETL-heavy systems, dashboards, attribution/measurement. You understand that data products have different failure modes than typical web apps.

•       Been through at least one acquisition, funding round, or technical diligence process. You know what diligence teams ask because you’ve answered their questions.

•       Can present technical architecture to non-technical audiences (investors, clients, partners) with clarity and confidence.

(Nice to Have)

•       Adtech exposure: DSPs, impression logs, attribution windows, device identity resolution. Helpful but fully learnable in 8 weeks.

•       Experience with location data or geospatial analytics.

•       Previous startup experience at a company with fewer than 30 people.

•       Flask specifically (current stack), but any Python web framework translates.

What the Role is Note

•       Not a CTO. You’re not setting company strategy or sitting on a board. You’re the most senior engineer who owns the engineering machine.

•       Not a people manager of the whole company. You manage the offshore devs and supervise agents. Shahid and Aziz have their own lanes. Jack runs product. You collaborate, you don’t reorganize.

•       Not a solo contributor hiding in a terminal. You will write code, but your highest-leverage activities are review, infrastructure, process, and making other resources (human and AI) more effective.

•       Not a position for someone who needs to be told what to build. The founder provides product direction and data methodology. You figure out how to deliver it reliably.

Why Agent Era Matters

Quorum is deliberately building an engineering organization designed for the agent era. This means:

•       Smaller human headcount, higher leverage. Instead of hiring 5 mid-level engineers, we run 2–3 strong humans supervising AI agents and 1–2 offshore devs. The cost structure is dramatically different. The quality bar is maintained by the senior humans, not by headcount.

•       The codebase is the contract. Type hints, tests, linting, module boundaries, READMEs, architecture docs — these aren’t nice-to-haves. They’re the interface that agents work against. The Senior Engineer owns this interface.

•       Review is the bottleneck, not writing. Agents can produce code fast. The Senior Engineer’s job is to ensure what they produce is correct, safe, and doesn’t regress the data pipeline that processes billions of observations.

•       This is a competitive advantage. Most companies our size are either trying to hire 10 engineers they can’t afford, or using AI haphazardly. We’re building the organizational structure deliberately around the agent model. The right Senior Engineer makes this real.
