- Y Combinator was backed with $42M raised. Firm aircraft orders already under contract with partners like Fiji Airways, Honeywell, and the US Navy — deploying in 2026.
- Staff-level IC role owning all embedded systems for a hybrid propulsion platform that doesn't exist anywhere else yet. $180K- $ 210K base equity, fully on-site in Long Beach.
Hiring manager Notes:
Required:
- 8 years of experience developing embedded software/firmware for power electronics (inverters, converters)
- DSP on- target experience (TI C2000, ARM Cortex- R/M) with production C/C firmware
- Controls expertise: FOC, SVPWM, sensorless observers for PMSM drives
- Actively uses AI coding tools in their workflow
- MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or Controls

- Shipped production embedded platforms for power electronics (inverters/converters) — not just prototype- level work
- SiC power electronics experience — understands gate drivers, dead time, and switching behavior at the software level
Nice to Have:
- Experience from EV, hybrid powertrain, or eVTOL companies (e. g. , Archer, Rivian, Tesla, Lucid)
- Led or owned motor controls embedded software for a team or subsystem
- PhD in inverter design, fault tolerance, or high-speed generators
Job details:
We are looking for a Staff Propulsion Controls & Software Engineer with 8 years of experience to own the development of the embedded software stack for a cutting-edge hybrid propulsion system in aviation. You are an expert in embedded platforms for power electronics—someone who has shipped production code for inverters and converters, not just prototyped. You'll work independently to stand up production-ready software and hardware selection for the hybrid power plant controller, taking what exists today from eval-level to flight-ready. This is a rare opportunity to build something from the ground up that doesn't exist anywhere else in aviation.
What will you be doing?
- Own the hybrid power plant controller: organize and structure all control algorithms, select the right embedded compute platform (chip, series, manufacturer), and build the full embedded software stack from eval-level to production-ready
- Write and deploy embedded C/C code on test rigs daily—implementing control loops for SiC-based motor drives, active rectifiers, and DC/DC converters with fault detection and safe-state behavior
- Define the compute hardware family that can scale up and down depending on the application, from the hybrid controller (most complex) to simpler subsystems
- Coordinate power generation control, battery interface, and multi-source power management for a hybrid system with multiple power sources and loads
- Establish the software development structure, CI workflows, and MIL/SIL/HIL verification infrastructure needed to harden the propulsion software for production and certification
Salary : $180 - $210
