Role Description
The Database Administrator is responsible for providing advanced database administration support functions supporting the Infrastructure and Software Environment for the Indian Health Service (IHS) primary Electronic Health Record (EHR), the Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS). This position supports the installation, configuration, maintenance, performance tuning, backup and recovery, and security of database environments that support critical clinical, administrative, and operational functions. The Database Administrator works independently and collaboratively with system administrators, application teams, and stakeholders to ensure database availability, integrity, confidentiality, and compliance with federal and organizational requirements in a 24/7 healthcare IT environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related technical field (required).
- Associate degree with significant relevant experience may be acceptable.
- InterSystems Cache/IRIS/HealthShare certification
- Oracle, SQL Server, or equivalent database certifications
- ITIL Foundation certification (preferred).
- Security-related certifications (e.g., Security , CISSP) preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required federal suitability or background clearance (Public Trust)
- CompTIA Security Certification (Required)
- CompTIA Server Certification (Required)
- CompTIA Cloud Certification (Required)
- MUMPS or VistA system-related certification
- Proficiency in SQL queries, stored procedures, views, indexes, and scripting tools for automation (e.g., PowerShell, shell scripting, or similar).
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals, security practices, and connectivity issues that affect database access for remote clinics and sites.
- Experience supporting virtualized and cloud environments.
- Proficiency with endpoint and monitoring tools (e.g., CrowdStrike)
