What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intensive Behavior Support DSP (WEEKENDS ONLY) position at Quintessence Resources, LLC?
SUMMARY:
Intensive Behavior Support Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) work with individuals who have SIGNIFICANT BEHAVIORAL NEEDS in Quintessence Resources group home settings. DSP's assist individuals to become more integrated in their communities by maximizing the person's abilities, strength, and interests. The purpose of our organization is to assist all of our clients to be as integrated with their community as possible. We also assist our clients with developing relationships and to help them create meaningful life experiences. Support by the DSP may occur in a variety of settings (i.e. assistance with daily living activities, job coaching, teaching/assisting with adaptive or developing skills, etc.) and assisting in communication/self expression are just some of the requirements for this position. OTHER REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE THE ABILITY TO WORK WITH INDIVIDUALS THAT MAY BECOME AGGRESSIVE BY, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
PUNCHING, HITTING, SPITTING, OR BITING STAFF, SELF, OR OTHERS
ABILITY TO CHANGE ADULT DIAPERS AND SUPPORT INDIVIDUALS WITH INCONTINENCE
INDIVIDUALS WILL RECEIVE TRAINING IN WORKING WITH INDIVIDUALS THAT MAY DISPLAY THESE BEHAVIORS.
Some of the Duties and Responsibilities for this position are as follows:
The DSP will:
*listen and communicate carefully, clearly and respectfully with the people supported
*understand, follow through, implement and document support plans, goals, activities, progress, etc.
*support people with daily living skills and personal support needs
*facilitate activities that provide people with connections to the community and social capital
*assist people in planning and structuring activities
*maintain an environment that is healthy, safe, peaceful, and comfortable
*administers medication in accordance with medical provider directions, and DBHDS/State of Virginia policies
*follows all policies and procedures regarding safety in all environments
*assist individuals supported in developing and following a person centered schedule
*aids individuals supported to participate in activities of their choosing
*provides opportunities for activities in various settings and transportation, as needed
*exhibits professional behavior towards the individuals supported, families, coworkers and supervisors
*follows all agency policies and procedures
*provides emergency coverage when requested by management
*ensure that clients are free from abuse, neglect, and exploitation
*support individuals with positive behavioral techniques to avoid challenging situations and promote respect and dignity
*maintain satisfactory attendance to work shifts, staff meetings, and other assigned agency functions
*complete duties assigned by supervisor or designee
*complete needed trainings by established deadlines
*HAVE RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION for transporting residents to community engagement activities and other activities/appointments. PLEASE DO NOT APPLY IF YOU DO NOT HAVE PERSONAL TRANSPORTATION. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR OWN VEHICLE TO TRANSPORT INDIVIDUALS.

WEEKEND SHIFTS AVAILABLE ONLY FRIDAY TO MONDAY MORNING
QUALIFICATIONS FOR INTENSIVE BEHAVIOR DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL:
**High School Diploma or GED
**Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, at least one year
**EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH INDIVIDUALS WITH INTENSE BEHAVIORS, FOR AT LEAST 3 YEARS.
**Ability to pass criminal/registry background checks (AT EMPLOYEE EXPENSE)
**Clear Tuberculosis screening/TEST
**A valid driver's license and insured vehicle
**Required trainings you must have: CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration and Positive Behavior Support Training (TOVA)
