SUMMARY:

While Grade 5 is housed in our middle school, our students are taught in a double-block of English Language Arts that allows teachers to extend our K-4 literacy program and experience into the fifth grade. ELA teachers, thus, work in a middle school model, in close collaboration with both team members and grade level ELA colleagues.

 

Our curriculum and instruction is guided by a committed to ensuring that every child builds a strong foundation in literacy through explicit, evidence-based instruction in decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

 

By engaging with diverse, complex texts, writing across genres, and participating in meaningful conversations, our students develop curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of reading. Rooted in the science of reading and culturally responsive practices, our inclusive learning environments honor students’ linguistic and cultural identities, empowering them to think critically, communicate confidently, and become engaged, informed members of their communities.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSILBILITES:

  • Must follow the state’s educational standards for language or communication arts when designing the curriculum.
  • Your goal is to help students develop their writing, reading comprehension, and listening and speaking skills, with the aim of expanding their capacity to use the English language both for communication and personal enrichment.
  • Implementing and delivering quality instruction to students and executing the instructional program by demanding higher order thinking activities from students in a progressive manner
  • Collaborate with teaching staff and administrators to foster a good student experience

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Must hold DESE English 5-12 license
  • ESL licensure or bilingual preferred
  • SEI Endorsement required
  • Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI), and fingerprints

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Hudson School Committee’s policy on evaluation or in accordance with union contract.

 

WORK YEAR:    

  • 10 months, 183 days
  • 3 personal days, 13 sick days, prorated pursuant to date of hire

While performing duties of this job, the employee may often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee will have also have ample periods of standing and may be required to traverse throughout the building. The employee must frequently use hands and frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). Physical abilities may also include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field. Ability must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs for short periods, and walk up and down stairs several times a day. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, staff members, and the public in person and on the telephone.

Salary : $55,911 - $111,490
