Supervisor: Director of Special Education
Salary Range: QEA Salary Schedule
Location / Assignment: Special Education
Conditions of Work: 180 days/7.25 hrs/day

 

 

SUMMARY:
The BCBA will provide; student observations, consultations with administrators, staff and parents, written recommendations and reports, attend meetings and model positive behavior strategies to aid in replacement of student’s challenging behavior.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Provide a comprehensive approach to behavior management including but not limited to; behavior observations, evaluations, data collection, intervention and monitoring.
• Support teams in creating Positive Behavior Support Plans to manage behavior that affects student learning, using data to support replacement behavior.
• Model positive behavior strategies to aid in the replacement of student’s challenging behavior.
• Assist in development IEP behavior and social/emotional goals.
• Develop and assist in the development of Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans.
• Coordinate with teachers, resource specialists and / or community (e.g. courts, child protective services, etc.) for the purpose of providing requested information, gaining needed information and / or making recommendations.
• Assist in training staff, parents and students in specialized instructional strategies and techniques being implemented, for the purpose of sharing information and techniques used in behavior intervention.
• Implement and model social skill development techniques for the purpose of assisting in achieving academic, social, emotional and behavioral goals.
• Monitor and record data on behavior for the purpose of measuring progress on student behavior plans.
• Serve on staff committees as required.
• Perform related tasks consistent with the scope and responsibility of the position.
• Must have good human relations and interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, and show initiative when appropriate.
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s degree or higher.

• Hold a valid Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certificate from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). Must submit a copy of valid BCBA certificate.

• Passing score on the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) exam from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB)

• Complete a PESB-approved ESA course per WAC 181-79A-224
• Experience working with students with a variety of mental health / behavior disorders.
• Knowledge of WA State Rules and Regulations governing Special Education-sub specialties in Discipline, Autism and Mental Health.
• Knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504). Accommodations for children and adolescent mental health disorders.
• Knowledge and experience with PBIS and Multi-tiered Systems of Support.
• Ability to interface with other departments (example: transportation) to coordinate supports
for students demonstrating challenging behavior.
• Ability to interpret Functional Behavior Assessments and Positive Behavior and Positive Behavior Support Plans.
• Ability to work individually and in a collaborative or team approach.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues, orally and in writing.
• Ability to work with students in multi-aged groups.
• Ability to perform all duties in accordance with applicable Board policies as well as district / legal requirements.
• Ability to meet punctuality and attendance expectations.
