Position Summary
The Head Men's Soccer Coach is responsible for leading, developing, and overseeing all aspects of the men's soccer program at the junior college level. This includes coaching, recruiting, player development, academic support, program administration, and ensuring compliance with institutional, conference, and NJCAA rules. The coach is expected to foster competitive excellence while promoting academic achievement, sportsmanship, and personal development of student-athletes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coaching & Player Development
Plan and conduct effective practices and training sessions that emphasize skill development, tactical understanding, conditioning, and team cohesion
Coach and manage the team during competitions, including game strategy, player evaluation, and in-game decisions
Develop a positive, disciplined, and inclusive team culture aligned with the mission of the college
Recruiting & Retention
Identify, evaluate, recruit, and retain qualified student-athletes who meet academic and athletic standards
Build and maintain recruiting networks with high school coaches, club programs, and community organizations
Assist prospective student-athletes with the admissions, eligibility, and financial aid processes
Academic & Student-Athlete Support
Promote and monitor student-athlete academic progress and retention
Emphasize academic accountability, life skills, and personal responsibility
Serve as a mentor and role model for student-athletes
Program Administration
Manage team budgets and equipment inventory in coordination with the athletic department
Coordinate travel, scheduling, and logistics for practices and competitions
Maintain accurate records related to recruiting, eligibility, and team operations
Participate in departmental meetings, professional development, and institutional events
Compliance & Governance
Ensure full compliance with NJCAA, conference, and college policies and regulations
Educate student-athletes on eligibility requirements, codes of conduct, and sportsmanship standards
Community & College Engagement
Represent the college positively within the campus community and at public events
Assist with athletic department initiatives such as clinics, camps, community outreach, and fundraising
Support and collaborate with other athletic programs and staff as needed
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required (Master's degree preferred or required by institution)
Demonstrated knowledge of the sport of soccer and effective coaching techniques
Recruiting experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required
Preferred Qualifications
Previous head or assistant coaching experience at the junior college or collegiate level
Playing experience at the collegiate or higher level
Knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations
CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Ability to stand, walk, and demonstrate soccer skills during practices and training sessions
Ability to lift and transport equipment
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
