Under the license of the applicable healthcare provider, the Medical Assistant supports integrated clinical services within a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). This position assists providers in the examination, treatment, and care of patients across primary care, behavioral health, and substance use disorder services. The Medical Assistant plays a critical role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to diverse and underserved populations while supporting clinic operations, regulatory compliance, and care coordination.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities are assigned by the Supervisor and include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform clinical skills within the scope of practice for a Washington State Certified Medical Assistant in an FQHC setting

  • Prepare patients and examination rooms for routine, specialty, and integrated care visits

  • Obtain and accurately document vital signs, medical histories, and patient information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)

  • Assist providers during examinations, treatments, minor office procedures, and specialty or integrated visits

  • Provide patient education and culturally responsive care to support health literacy and engagement

  • Administer injections, treatments, routine laboratory tests, and screening procedures; report results appropriately

  • Draw blood and prepare specimens for testing, ensuring strict adherence to chain-of-custody and quality standards

  • Operate clinical and diagnostic equipment, including EKG machines and other routine testing devices

  • Clean, disinfect, and prepare examination rooms and sterilize instruments in accordance with infection control protocols

  • Inventory, stock, and order medical and clinical supplies to support continuous patient care

  • Obtain medication prior authorizations and assist with care coordination as needed

  • Complete and maintain accurate documentation and required forms in a timely manner

  • Answer telephones, prepare charts, and perform related administrative and clerical tasks

  • Cross-train and assist other clinic staff to ensure continuity of services

  • Adhere to all FQHC, organizational, and regulatory policies, including HRSA, HIPAA, and quality improvement standards

  • Actively support and uphold the organization’s mission, vision, and values focused on access, equity, and community health

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Active Medical Assistant–Certified (MA-C), or Medical Assistant-Registered (MA-R) credential through the Washington State Department of Health

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification

  • Knowledge of current medical practices in primary care.

  • Experience or familiarity working with underserved, vulnerable, or diverse populations

  • Working knowledge of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and healthcare-related software

  • Knowledge of HIPAA and Protected Health Information (PHI) requirements

  • Knowledge of standard office and clinical procedures and equipment

  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment and understand social determinants of health

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, interruption-heavy environment

  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, staff, and community partners

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program

  • Current or recent Medical Assistant experience in an FQHC, community health center, or primary care setting

  • Current national Medical Assistant certification

  • Experience working in integrated care or team-based care models

License and Certification Requirements

  • Valid Washington State Medical Assistant–Certified credential (must be maintained throughout employment)

  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License

  • Must be insurable under the organization’s insurance requirements

Physical and Mental Requirements

This position is performed in a clinical FQHC environment and requires the ability to operate standard office and medical equipment. The role involves frequent standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods, as well as the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects. Substantial use of hands, wrists, and fingers is required, along with visual acuity to enter, review, and interpret data using computer systems.

Salary : $22 - $32
