What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automotive Reconditioner, Sold Vehicle Detailer, Lot Attendant, Light Mechanical Work position at Quigley Chevrolet?
Role Summary
We are seeking a dual-role Automotive Reconditioner & Sold Vehicle Detailer to join our team. This role is the heartbeat of our inventory management. Half of your time will be spent "reconditioning" new arrivals—transforming trade-ins into retail-ready vehicles. The other half will be focused on "Sold Delivery" details—providing a meticulous final polish for customers who have just purchased their vehicle to ensure a "perfect" delivery experience. This role will also be expected to assist with lot maintenance and light mechanical work (changing tires and replacing batteries). There is room to learn and truly become a jack of all trades within the dealership structure.
Key Responsibilities
1. Inventory Reconditioning (The Deep Clean)
- Paint Correction: Utilize high-speed buffers, orbitals, and clay bars to remove oxidation, swirls, and light scratches.
- Interior Overhaul: Perform deep-extraction shampooing, steam cleaning, and odor neutralization (Ozone treatments).
- Engine Detailing: Safely degrease and dress engine bays to showroom standards.
- Protection: Apply ceramic sprays, waxes, or sealants to protect the vehicle while it sits on the lot.
2. Sold Vehicle Delivery (The Final Polish)
- The "Spotless" Standard: Perform a rapid but thorough final vacuum, window cleaning (streak-free), and tire dressing for vehicles heading to their new owners.
- Delivery Readiness: Ensure all personal effects from previous owners are removed and that the "new car smell" is present.
- Plate & Decal Installation: Install dealer plates and decals as needed.
3. Lot & Shop Maintenance
- Safety First: Handle hazardous chemicals (acids, degreasers) according to OSHA and SDS guidelines.
- Logistics: Move vehicles efficiently through the "Recon Pipeline" (Wash → Buff → Interior → Line).
- Lot Maintenance: Assist sales team with straightening out the vehicle lines, help with snow removal from lot and vehicles.
4. Light Mechanical Work
- Tires & Batteries: Sometimes the shop gets backed up and this role can assist by jumping in to change tires, fix flat tires and replace dead batteries.
Required Qualifications
- Technical Proficiency: Proven experience with rotary and dual-action (DA) polishers.
- Efficiency: Ability to manage time effectively between long-term projects (Recon) and immediate "Sold" priorities.
- Physical Ability: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, work in heat/cold, and spend 8 hours on your feet.
- Clean Record: A valid Driver’s License and a driving record that meets insurance requirements is mandatory.
- High school diploma or equivalent
