Our client - a leading Japanese retail store in Gardena, CA is looking for a Human Resources Manager.
Essential Duties
Leadership & Strategic Partnership
・Manage the day-to-day operations of the HR department, including HR compliance, employee engagement, compensation, benefits, safety, and policy development.
・Lead HR for multiple store regions and corporate departments, reporting to executive management.
・Supervise and lead the HR team to support business growth and efficiency.
・Work with the accounting department to ensure strong labor relations.
・Align HR strategies with business goals, including store expansion and organizational design.
・Oversee HRIS functionality and process improvements (UKG/KRONOS preferred); ensure data integrity and reporting accuracy.
・Manage budgets and resources for HR operations and programs.
Talent Acquisition & Organizational Growth
・Manage recruitment to support new store openings and build a talent pipeline.
・Implement scalable hiring processes across regions, aligned with the company's cultural values.
・Work with senior leaders and external partners on workforce planning and key role assignments.
Compliance & Risk Management
・Ensure compliance with California and federal labor laws, including but not limited to wage and hours, leaves of absence, safety, and employment classifications.
・Update and maintain HR policies, the employee handbook, and other HR programs.
・Lead internal audits and training on compliance and best practices.
Employee Relations & Culture Building
・Handle employee relations matters, including investigations, disciplinary action, and terminations.
・Promote a culture of trust, inclusion, and accountability.
・Develop strategies to improve employee satisfaction and reduce turnover.

Qualifications
・Management Experience: Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field. 3 years in HR management, including supervising 10 employees.
・HR Expertise: Practical experience in all aspects of HR.
・Organizational Experience: Have experience working in an organization with over 100 employees.
・Industry Experience: Experience in the retail industry.
・Legal Knowledge: Knowledge of California labor laws, federal, and other HR related regulations.
・Communication Skills: High level of communication skills in English, including speaking, reading, and writing at a native level.
・Technical Skills: Practical experience using attendance management and payroll systems.
・Eligibility: Currently and for the foreseeable future, eligible to work in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
・Retail HR Management: Experience as an HR Manager in the retail industry in California, including managing HR operations across multiple stores.
・Certifications: HR-related certifications (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR).
・Compliance and Dispute Resolution: Experience in resolving labor disputes and strengthening compliance.
・Language Skills: Multilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish, Japanese).
