Job Summary
Our sheet metal shop is looking for helpers that want to learn the trade and are excited to be a part of commercial construction. This is an entry level position. Knowledge of ductwork and mechanical systems is preferred but not required. The Sheet Metal Shop Helper will receive direct and indirect supervision. This position is a safety sensitive job, where the employee is responsible for and can impact their own safety as well as the safety of those around them.
Primary Duties:
- Fabricate and assemble metal structures and equipment
- Work with ductwork and mechanical components
- Use hand tools for cutting, bending, and shaping metal
- Perform pipe threading when required
- Operate power tools safely and efficiently
Requirements:
- Strong mechanical knowledge and exposure to the construction industry
- Ability to use calipers for accurate measurements
- Familiarity with hand tools for metalworking tasks
- Competence in using various power tools
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Attention to detail and quality of work performed
- Ability to work independently, with excellent time management skills
- Good communications skills
- Good organizational skills
- Observes and abides by all Company procedures and safety rules
- Ability to work and interact with others in a positive manner
EDUCATIONAL, LICENSING and CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED
- Hold OSHA certification (must obtain within 60 days of hire date)
- Valid driver’s license
- Valid social security number
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands of this position are very rigorous in nature. Valid, pre-employment and post-employment physical evaluations/tests may be conducted to prevent work-related physical risk.
- Ability to lift up to 100 pounds on own
- Ability to push, pull, carry and maneuver heavy items (with additional manpower or appropriate tools)
- Ability to withstand long periods of standing, squatting, stooping and crawling (stationary positions up to 50% of time)
- Ability to feel, grasp, operate and position items with fingers and hands
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $28.00 per hour
