QUEST Environmental (Quality Environmental Services & Technologies, Inc.) helps clients create and maintain safe, healthy environments through high-quality environmental consulting and testing services. Since 1995, QUEST has provided environmental and industrial hygiene assessment services throughout all of Colorado and nationwide, and is now expanding its operations into Utah.

Our clients include property owners and managers, real estate, insurance, restoration companies, contractors, engineering firms, school districts, and government agencies. We take the time to understand each client’s needs and provide practical, high-quality, unbiased, and technically sound solutions.

Role Description

QUEST is seeking an experienced independent asbestos inspector to provide project-based field services in Utah. This is an independent contractor opportunity with recurring assignments based on project demand. No minimum volume or fixed schedule is guaranteed, and the contractor may accept or decline individual assignments based on availability.

The contractor will conduct asbestos inspections at residential, commercial, and industrial properties; identify and assess suspect asbestos-containing materials; collect and document samples; and provide the field information and reporting required for QUEST to serve its Utah clients.

Project Responsibilities
  • Conduct asbestos inspections in accordance with Utah Administrative Code R307-801 and applicable federal requirements.
  • Review the project scope and identify accessible suspect asbestos-containing materials within the affected area.
  • Collect, label, photograph, and document samples using compliant sampling procedures.
  • Prepare accurate field notes, material inventories, diagrams, chain-of-custody documentation, and other required project records.
  • Coordinate sample delivery or shipment to approved laboratories.
  • Prepare inspection reports or provide complete field documentation for internal report preparation, depending on the individual project assignment.
  • Communicate material findings, access limitations, safety concerns, and scope changes to the QUEST project manager.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, property representatives, contractors, and other project stakeholders while on-site.
  • Maintain all certifications, insurance, equipment, transportation, and business requirements necessary to perform the contracted services correctly.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Utah asbestos inspector certification or the ability to obtain Utah certification before accepting assignments.
  • Current AHERA asbestos inspector training and applicable refresher credentials.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting asbestos inspections and collecting bulk building-material samples.
  • Working knowledge of Utah asbestos requirements, AHERA sampling protocols, OSHA requirements, and safe field practices.
  • Ability to identify common suspect building materials and document homogeneous areas, material condition, friability, quantity, and location accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to defensible field documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet agreed-upon project deadlines.
  • Ability to enter crawlspaces, attics, mechanical areas, construction zones, and other potentially confined or physically demanding environments.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel to project sites.
  • Ability to provide a completed Form W-9 and invoice QUEST for completed assignments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Established independent environmental consulting or asbestos inspection business.
  • Experience providing services to multiple environmental consulting firms or other clients.
  • Experience preparing complete Utah-compliant asbestos inspection reports.
  • Experience with commercial, multifamily, restoration, renovation, or demolition-related inspections.
  • Additional experience in industrial hygiene, mold, lead, indoor air quality, radon, Phase I, or other environmental assessments is a huge plus!
  • Existing professional liability, commercial general liability, automobile, and workers’ compensation coverage or applicable waiver documentation.
Independent Contractor Relationship

This is a non-exclusive, project-based independent contractor opportunity and not an offer of direct employment. The contractor will control their availability and may accept or decline individual assignments. Compensation is established per assignment based on project scope, location, expected field time, reporting responsibilities, and travel requirements. The contractor will ordinarily be responsible for their own transportation, equipment, insurance, taxes, licenses, certifications, and business expenses, subject to the terms of the master independent contractor agreement and individual project work orders.

  • Interested professionals should submit a résumé or statement of qualifications, current Utah asbestos certification information, service area, availability, anticipated project rates, and a sample inspection report with confidential client information removed.
