As Facilities Manager supporting our multi-site locations in Boston, Harwell (UK) and Tsukuba (Japan), you will lead the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of mission-critical mechanical systems supporting Quera Computing. This role owns company-wide mechanical maintenance execution, vendor performance, operational readiness, and technician leadership across electrical, cooling and HVAC infrastructure.

This role owns company-wide mechanical maintenance execution, vendor performance, operational readiness, and technician leadership across electrical, cooling and HVAC infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily operations, maintenance, and service execution for critical mechanical and HVAC infrastructure.
- Own mechanical plant readiness, including preventive maintenance, corrective work, inspections, and restoration activities.
- Manage site engineers & technicians, contractors, and service vendors, ensuring strong safety performance, quality, documentation, and SLA adherence.
- Drive troubleshooting and response for mechanical failures, abnormal conditions, and performance degradation impacting uptime.
- Partner with engineering and scientific teams on retrofits, upgrades, system turnover, and operational acceptance.
- Lead or support root cause analysis for major or recurring issues and ensure corrective actions are fully implemented and sustained.
- Maintain audit-ready records including procedures, service reports, maintenance history, turnover documentation, and CMMS data.
- Champion safe work practices, environmental compliance, and disciplined process execution across all mechanical operations.
- Develop and execute facilities management plans for key locations. Optimize infrastructure lifecycles, develop preventative maintenance plans, and qualify maintenance vendors.
- Qualify, retain, and manage consultant teams and contractors to participate in the planning and execution of facility build-outs and capital projects
- Coordinate with consultants to secure all necessary development and building permits
- Oversee contractors and vendors during construction, ensuring the work is performed consistent with the contract documents
- Manage all project documentation and workflow including drawings, permits, RFIs, and change orders
- Manage physical security programs and procedures for all facilities
- Experience leading mechanical plant operations, HVAC service, or critical cooling maintenance in data centers or other uptime-critical environments.
- Strong knowledge of chilled water systems, cooling towers, pumps, CRAHs, AHUs, CDUs, and related controls platforms.
- Experience managing vendors, maintenance programs, incident response, and service execution in 24x7 operations.
- Experience supporting commissioning, turnover, or operational acceptance of new or upgraded systems is preferred.
- 7-10 years of work experience in project management in a multi-disciplinary real estate environment is required.
- Must be willing to work on site 5 days a week & respond to off hour emergencies.
- Ability to travel on occasion to global sites (e.g., UK, Japan)
- Strong troubleshooting judgment and calm decision-making under pressure.
- Deep commitment to safety, procedure adherence, and documentation rigor.
- Clear communicator able to translate plant conditions, risks, and actions for varied stakeholders.
- Strong planning and execution discipline across maintenance, backlog, and operational priorities.
