Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Children’s Librarian, the part-time Early Learning Specialist supports early childhood programs and services at a community library. This initiative seeks to support parents and caregivers as children’s first teachers. This position works collaboratively with the Children’s Librarian to lead scheduled story time or play based programs for families with young children ages birth to five in-person or virtually. Leads informal play based, storytime or craft programs. The Early Learning Specialist monitors family programming by paid presenters or community organizations. May provide outreach visits to local daycares. Emphasizes the power of play in developing essential learning skills and manages the early learning space and toy collection. Performs other duties as required.
Position Information
- The rate of pay for this position is $25.00 per hour.
- Flexible schedule with a maximum of 17 hours per week.
- This is a temporary grant-funded position through June 30, 2026.
- This is a non-union position.
- Part-time positions do not offer any medical or health benefits.
Education and Experience/Qualifications
High School Diploma or High School Equivalency is required. Some college or Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience working with children ages birth to five required. Experience leading early childhood programming preferred. Familiarity working in an ethnically diverse urban community preferred. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills required. Fluency in a second language spoken in Queens is preferred.
