Responsibilities
I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manages and directs all aspects of medication-related supply chain and financial business operations of the Pharmacy department of The Queen’s Medical Center, including medication and related supply purchasing, inventory management, vendor management, group purchasing organization (GPO) and wholesaler relationships, standardization, supply-chain related information systems and technology, preparation of the capital and operating budgets, preparation of the workload budget, and monthly variance reporting.
• Works collaboratively with Pharmacy leadership in the areas of drug policy, information technology, business management, ambulatory services and inpatient operations.
• Manages the inventory management and mitigation of medication shortages by leveraging technology and predictive ordering processes.
• Oversees pharmacy automation systems used to manage inventory and dispensing.
• Serves as department head in the absence of the Director, as assigned.
II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Essential: standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking, lifting and carrying usual weight of 2 pounds; pushing/pulling usual weight of 10 pounds of force; reaching above, at and below shoulder level.
• Occasional: stooping/bending, twisting body, lifting and carrying weight up to 25 pounds; pushing/pulling weight up to 40 pounds; repetitive arm/hand motions, static gripping of an object for prolonged periods; frequent gripping of an object.
• Operates various office/pharmaceutical equipment such as computers, machines, numbering/time stamps, dispensers.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
• Occasionally exposed to cold temperatures from freezers.
• Subjected to noise/vibration from air conditioner, printers, telephones, stamp machines.
• Exposure to hazardous drugs, chemicals, dust, odors, cleaning/disinfectant fumes.
• Work environment is fast paced, and frequently stressful due to workload.
• Handles multiple tasks at one time.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
• Current Hawaii State license as a Pharmacist.
• Doctor of Pharmacy degree required.
• Advanced degree such as MBA or MHA preferred.
B. EXPERIENCE:
• Five (5) years experience as a hospital or health-system Pharmacist; or two (2) years experience as a hospital or health-system Pharmacist and completion of an American Society of Hospital Pharmacy (ASHP) PGY2 residency in Pharmacy Administration and Leadership.
• Two (2) years supervisory/leadership experience.
• Prior experience with computerized inventory control systems.
• Knowledge of supply chain and Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) best practices.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels throughout the organization.
