Queens Community House (QCH) is a multi-site, multi-service settlement house that serves the diverse neighborhoods of Queens. We serve residents of all ages, races, faiths, and ethnicities while supporting the viability of the borough as a whole.
QCH was formed in 1975 (as Forest Hills Community House) to help heal the wounds of a neighborhood conflict. Over four decades, our reach and breadth have grown; today we offer a broad network of comprehensive services at 25 program sites in 11 different neighborhoods in Queens, allowing us to impact individuals, families, and entire communities.
,
Queen Community House's Friendly Visiting Program matches homebound older adults with volunteers in their community, creating intergenerational relationships in Western, Central and Southeast Queens. The program aims to reduce isolation and loneliness amongst seniors in our neighborhoods and communities.
Friendly visiting is an enriching opportunity for the volunteer to develop a meaningful friendship. Together, the older adult and volunteer can discuss shared interests, learn/teach new skills, read books, learn technology, and celebrate special holidays.
We are in need of bi-lingual volunteers who speak Spanish, Creole, Cantonese, Greek, Italian, Hebrew, Romanian, Americal Sign Language, and French!!
Friendly visitors must be 18 and over, be open to committing to 6 months of volunteerism, and a background check is required to participate in the program. Volunteers can either call an older adult or do in-person visits upon approval.
