Automotive Technician / Fleet & Shop Manager

Queen Mary Inc., a school transportation company with an established in-house repair facility, is seeking an experienced Automotive Technician / Fleet & Shop Manager to take primary responsibility for the maintenance, repair, and readiness of our vehicle fleet.

This is a hands-on position for an experienced technician who can independently diagnose and repair vehicles while also helping manage day-to-day shop and fleet operations.

Our facility is also being prepared for future public-facing repair operations, creating an opportunity for increased management responsibility, performance-based bonus potential, and higher compensation as the shop grows.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, maintain, and repair school buses, passenger vans, and other fleet vehicles.
• Perform brake, suspension, steering, A/C, electrical, cooling system, and exhaust repairs.
• Handle more advanced mechanical work including manifolds, timing chains/belts, head gaskets, valvetrain repairs, and engine or transmission replacement.
• Maintain fleet readiness and prioritize repairs to minimize vehicle downtime.
• Perform and track preventative maintenance.
• Diagnose vehicle issues and determine appropriate repair procedures.
• Coordinate parts ordering and outside vendors when necessary.
• Maintain an organized and functional shop.
• Assist with fleet inspections and vehicle preparation.
• Train staff on wheelchair tie-downs, ramps, lifts, and related equipment.
• Help develop shop procedures as operations expand.
• Eventually assist with training and supervising junior technicians as the shop grows.

Qualifications

• 3 years of professional automotive repair experience preferred
• Strong diagnostic and mechanical ability.
• Must be capable of working independently at an A- or strong B-level technician level.
• Fleet, commercial vehicle, and/or school bus experience is a plus.
• ASE certifications are preferred but not required.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to manage multiple vehicles and prioritize repairs.
• Professional attitude and ability to communicate with management, drivers, vendors, and other employees.
• Must provide your own professional hand tools.

Specialty tools, lifts, diagnostic equipment, and major shop equipment are provided.
