#### Position Description
Provides cordial, responsive, and accurate customer service.
Polices Building Grounds. Collects, removes, and disposes of litter and debris. Shovels snow and spreads salt or other abrasives on walkways.
Performs custodial maintenance in, or on County Buildings and Grounds to ensure County Buildings are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness for employees, visitors, and other patrons of County Buildings.
Replaces supplies, collects trash, and moves furniture and makes minor building repairs.
Assists in performing routine maintenance and repairs to County buildings and Grounds.
Learns and applies safe maintenance practices.Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
Raises and lowers flags.
May be responsible to maintain planting beds, plants, and mulches/trims trees and shrubs for assigned buildings or other facilities as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES**
LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to follow and read basic routine instructions; ability to speak and write simple sentences.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide and the ability to perform routine mathematical calculations using a tape measure.
REASONING ABILITY:Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work activities.
**CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS**
Possession of a Class C Maryland Motor Vehicle Operators License (or the equivalent from another issuing state) or the ability to obtain such a license within thirty (30) daysof employment to position.Additional licenses or certifications may be required.
NIMS TRAINING
The following National Incident Management System (NIMS) Training is required with in the first year of employment:
Non-supervisory EmployeesCourses 700
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) with six months of related experience preferred.
**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**
Performs manual labor and utilizes various hand tools.Typically required to stand, walk, stoop, climb or sit; reach and handle objects, tools or controls; regularly lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.; and occasionally lift, or move objects weighing more than 100 lbs.
Reasonable accommodations may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.

**WORK ENVIRONMENT**
Regularly works inside and in outside weather conditions.On occasion, work is performed in potentially adverse weather conditions.Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. Occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to~~caustic~~hazardous chemicals, vibration and risk of infection or electrical shock.The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate, however, on occasion may be loud.
**COMMENTS**
This position has been designated as an ESSENTIAL POSITION and may be required to report to or remain on duty when County offices are closed due to inclement weather or for other reasons.In addition, this position must participate in the Standby Rotation.
An employee in this position may be required to work shift work, overtime, weekends, and holidays and/or remain on standby for a call back to work.
Employees must conform to applicable policies and safety rules.
This position is one within the Queen Annes County Civil Service System.An employee must serve a period of twelve months probation during which he or she may be terminated without notice, cause, hearing or right of appeal.

- SCHEDULE:**Monday-Friday, 6:00AM-2:30PM.
- The salary for this position is the minimum of the range.**This entry-level position performs a range of manual labor custodial tasks in support of County General Services in the cleaning and upkeep of County Buildings and Grounds.Under close supervision, performs general custodial duties, involving some responsibility, complexity, and variety, to keep County Buildings and Grounds clean and orderly.
