Position Summary
The 2nd Shift Plant Operator is responsible for monitoring, operating, and maintaining plant equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant facility operations. This role requires hands-on mechanical work, daily equipment monitoring, data documentation, and interaction with incoming material delivery drivers.
Essential Responsibilities
- Monitor pumps, motors, and other plant equipment to ensure safe and proper operation.
- Interact regularly and professionally with delivery truck drivers.
- Perform daily inspections of equipment, checking fluid levels and confirming proper function.
- Document instrument readings, test results, and materials entering and leaving the facility.
- Adjust machine controls to regulate temperature, motor speeds, and process conditions.
- Examine samples visually or manually for clarity, consistency, dryness, texture, and cleanliness.
- Collect digester samples and conduct basic laboratory analysis (e.g., chlorine residuals, suspended solids, volatile acids, alkalinity, CO₂, BOD, pH, temperature).
- Clean and inspect machines for hazards, malfunctions, leaks, wear, and operational issues.
- Prepare daily data sheets, generate reports, and input information into spreadsheets.
- Maintain buildings and grounds for safety and cleanliness, including snow removal or lawn care as needed.
Education, Experience & Skills
- Required: High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license required
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to make decisions, troubleshoot issues, and remain calm under pressure Ability to learn basic biology, chemistry, and mathematics
- Strong mechanical aptitude; experience operating machinery and reading gauges, dials, and indicators.
- Preferred: Associate degree in a relevant field
- Agriculture experience preferred
- Forklift and/or skid steer experience preferred
Work Conditions
- Physical role requiring stamina and ability to work around motorized equipment
- Must be able to lift up to 80 lbs, stand, walk, sit, climb, bend, reach, grasp, push/pull, work at heights up to 40 feet, and enter confined spaces
- Requires strong visual acuity, hearing, and clear communication
- Must react quickly to avoid hazards such as leaks or equipment malfunctions
- Frequent interaction with computers and digital monitoring systems
- Must follow all OSHA and company safety procedures
- Company-provided uniforms and safety gear required; exposure to wastewater, sludge, and effluent is possible
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions including heat, cold, snow, and inclement weather
- Ability to be on call for emergency response
- Must be able to work overtime, shift work, weekends, holidays, and flexible hours
First month will be on day shift (9AM - 5PM) for training purposes before moving perminently to 2nd shift (12:30PM - 9PM).

Pay: $25.00 - $27.00 per hour
